Can 186 visa dependent apply at a later date?

Can 186 visa dependent apply at a later date?

I am trying to understand if I can apply for my wife at a later date and not as part of my application on visa 186. So let's say I logged my application in January and traveled to Australia then I want my wife to join me on April can I add her as a dependent of 186 visa? or dependents has to be part of the main application otherwise I can't apply for her?
