Criminal Record

Can anyone help me make a decision?

I am currently in Australia on a ETA visa and I was going to apply for residency through mypartner as defacto partner, howerver I applied for a job and they have offered me a job and are prepared to sponser me for work. The only things is, is that I have a crimminal record from 1988 where I was done for Wounding, I wasn't sent to prison but I did get a fine and community service. This was an isolated incident wit mitigating circumstances. What do you think I should do.... Will I automatically get rejected for having this type of crimminal record.
