Exporting our car from UK to New Zealand

Hi there has anyone had a negative experience of having their UK car checked for compliance in New Zealand? We plan to ship ours over as we have only had it just over a year. Just heard a couple of horror stories where people have had their vehicles taken apart but not replaced with any care and sometimes parts being swapped from original manufactured to cheaper generic ones.
