Australia Spouse visa (temporary)

Hi, it's been a while since I ventured in here.
I am moving to Australia (I hope). I am UK citizen and my husband ( of four years) is an Australian and he has been here since 2001. I am in the middle of my application and proposed to submit it in July or thereabouts. I have all my paperwork and proof , my declarations from friends and relatives etc.

Something has come up that will set back the date on which we hope to be in Australia by at least another six months. When I submit my application can I state a date on which I would prefer to gain entry into Australia even if it's several months ahead or would it be best to wait until I know we are free to travel. It would be helpful to know the 'normal' time from start to end of the temporary spouse visa process.

Do you have any children together?

Also, has he considered British citizenship before he leaves?

No we have no children together and yes he got BC in 2005 a month or so after we married.
I have two older children, both at Uni. No dependants, I'm not including them on the visa application. They can get there under their own steam if they wish to do so in the furure.

I was just wondering if the visa applcation is straightforward how long it takes to go through and can I stipulate a preferable entry date in order to 'tie' things up here. ie: can I apply in July/August and ask for a November entry?
I don't envisage any problems as we have been together since 2001 and married since 2005 but you never know...
