Australian citizen with father born in UK:UK p'port or abode

Post by rick_tiger » Wed Jan 30, 2008 11:38 am

I am an Australian Citizen and passport holder.

My father was born in the UK.

I understand I am eligible to apply for either a UK passport or right of abode given my circumstances.

I would like to maybe work/reside in the UK in the future and not be restricted by my length of stay.

Which should I apply for - Passport or right of abode?

Any helpful comments would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Was your father married to your mother?

While a Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode would give you as much rights as British Citizens in the UK, a British passport would give you rights in Europe as well.

In that case you are a British citizen by descent. Either a British passport or Right of Abode stamp will do for the U.K., however the former is recommended.
