Australian seeking UK Unmarried Partner Visa - Questions

Post by m_welsh » Mon Jan 03, 2011 5:22 am

Hey, I am an English citizen currently living in Australia with my Australian partner. We are looking to return to the UK on an Unmarried Partner Visa, but have a few queries. Your help will be greatly appreciated!

1)With us both being out of the country, and looking to enter together, where and how do we apply? I have seen options for online and written, is there a better approach?

2)Generally how long is the process at this time of year? I've seen between 12-24 weeks. Is this peak season and we should be looking at the later?

3)We will be reaching our 2 year living anniversary in February. Can we apply prior to this, taking into consideration of process time and obviously leaving after this date. Or do we have to wait to February to start the process?

4)Is there an average amount of funds needed to enter the country on? I have seen we need to show our bank statements, are they looking for a set amount to prove we have sufficient funds?

5)Obviously this is a complicated process, is it recommended to get a solicitor to help?

6)We have lived the majority of our 2 years in shared houses with unofficial leases and bills in other house mates names. Will this count against us? Any recommendations to boost our application on this front?

Again any help is greatly appreciated, please!
