Baby born for ILR couples

My wife and I are Indians and ILR holders and my baby is due in May. When (s)he borns in the UK, I know, (s)he will become a british citizen automatically. Can we apply for the passport for him/her immediately or do we have to "register" him/her with the Home office first.

If we have to "register" then the process will take 3/4 months (?). After getting the registration certificate only we can apply for the passport? Is that right? or am I missing something here?

Some more information:
My wife and I, We both applied for the British nationality and the applicaiton for my wife might get rejected due to long absence in the UK (However we have provided enough evidence to prove that we have permanently settled in the UK). If we both get nationality, our baby don't need to "register" and we all can apply for the passports together. If my wife's application gets rejected, what will happen then?

Hope I explained well. It is all about applying for the passport for my baby.

To start with, congratulations. I wish every thing turns out A-OK

Your baby will be british by birth. You don't need to register her or anything. You can apply for her passport straight away by sending your marriage certificate, baby's birth certificate and your passport with ilr stamp.

As jazbaati99 says, your child will be British as soon as he/she is born. Ah but the difficult bit ... producing a passport pic acceptable to the Passport Agency! Have fun! For more information ..... click here.

Have you registered your first son as a British citizen (if he was born in the UK), now that you have ILR?
