Post by Junior0300 » Wed Jul 04, 2007 1:19 pm

Following the recent terrorist attacks the government has issued a statement
Highly-skilled workers will face more background checks, said Mr Brown.

That's only logical and frankly an automatic responsse.
In any case, they are focusing on NHS. Although I think that is a red herring. However, I guess they are thanking there lucky stars for taking the medical doctor category out of the fast track.

Well,

I think it is good that they carry out more background checks..

That will hopefully "filter" out bad elements, and then whole HSMP community wont be under attack..

I think HSMP didn't do what they expected it to do and thus the tightening up of the rules to the extreme. Like someone else said on the forum, they are probably trying to phase it out.

There is hardly anyhing they could do other than to make the immigration laws more strict. And it is a disgrace on the face of all skilled migrants to face this situation. I think the time has now come to forget dreaming about having a good life in the west and go back to our countries becoz that is what this situation would eventually lead to.

I guess they have themselves to blame for HSMP not doing what it wanted them to do. In the end of 2004 they reduced the point threshold from 75 to 65 and almost anyone could walk into the UK on HSMP. I have seen many people with a few years junior administrative experience coming to the UK on HSMP based on fake documents and doing menial mcjobs. This directly resulted in the retrospective legislation. Now with some skilled migrants unfortunately indulging in anti national terrorist activities we can forget about the new government taking a leniant view on HSMP visa holders.

Like I said, they were probably phasing it out anyway but in any case, they can't make changes so quickly so do all renewals as soon as they are eligible and change your status to ILR or apply for Naturalization to keep one step ahead

tighter security checks

Post by global gypsy » Wed Jul 04, 2007 3:51 pm

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/UK_t ... 175265.cms
"In a dismal analysis for this paper by at least one prominent British figure, who declined to be named, even Indian scientists might henceforth find themselves in the grey limbo that passes for security-led purgatory in the post-9/11 world.

The source pointed out that the US had practically made itself off-limits to 'foreign' scientists and other highly-skilled foreign workers after the attack on New York's World Trade Centre. The same could happen here, the source warned, particularly with at least two Indian doctors alleged to be part of al-Qaeda's technically-savvy army of foot soldiers. "

Pretty sad, if such restictions do come in...

I did a big mistake by changing to HSMP from workpermit before a year even though my employer was ready that time to sponser WP extension.

All my frinds got 5 years WP extension safely, I am the only fool who changed to HSMP. I was thinking I am great, now I could understand how fool I am

Now My HSMP extension due coming exactly at 4.5 years of my stay in UK (just 6 more months is eligible for ILR)

But I am deeply worried I dont know what rules they may change at what time. My HSMp extension itself is in doubt now. even though I have required points just by border as of now, I dont know when they will change the rules

Its not just you Hari, lots of other people have been fools to trust the UK govt to abide by their promise which they made in writing.

Hmm..

I think instead of swepping changes to all HSMP, Gov. shd look for clues/historic data to come to a decision about who might be a prospective "trouble maker".I guess it shdnt be a problem , if Gov. looks at data across the globe and scans relevant data(like Travel History ,previous Visas etc) , they shd. be able to draw a line..

If changes are made to HSMP then it would be like punishing entire class ,bcoz one kid misbehaved...(Imagine some one on WP doing such crimes in future then will they ban WP too??)
My 2 cents!!

Hi ashishashah

:) .You are right.

Already so many indian bound news papers(leading ones) have started printing "UK gov strengthens back ground check for HSMP".

I am afraid if this would be the case we wont get any job in UK even after we land in UK wit a hsmp visa  .

Wil this be the case? more eager to knw as i shoudl apply for EC with a job offer.

Cheers
