Born overseas after 01/01/1983, to a British mother

I was born overseas after 01/01/1983, to a British mother, who still holds British Nationality and a British Passport. I understand that I need to register as a British citizen prior to applying for a passport. Can anyone confirm this? As well as the applicable application form that i need to submit.

You are automatically a British Citizen, you do not need to register at all. Read this

Contact the nearest British High commission in the country you are resident and apply for you British passport. You would need to provide evidence of your mother's citizenship.
