To add to Mr Rusty...is it illegal to employ someone who does not have the right to live/work in the UK. If you employ her on a visitor's visa KNOWING full well that she is only on a visitor's visa, you are liable yourself and can be in a lot of trouble. I don't know exactly what happens with individual employers, but companies usually face a large fine.nicj wrote:hi there
I am in the process of hiring an au pair and have been in talks with a Brazilian girl that I really get on with and like the sound of. However, I didn't realise that she would only be able to come over on a 6 mth visitor visa until recently.
I need an au pair for 10-12 mths really. is there any way around the 6 mth visa? She would be starting with us in August and we need to go to Spain in Feb so if she came with us to Spain would she be able to get back into the UK (her 6 mths initial visa would probably have expired by then). Is the 6 mth visa just a stamp in the passport or is it something she has to apply for?
any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have a feeling I am going to have to go with an au pair from a different country (probably in the EU or Commonwealth) to make things easier which is unfortunate as we've built up quite a good relationship already.
ah well!
thanks
From the end of Feb this year it will be a maximum of £10,000.00 fine per employee.sakura wrote: I don't know exactly what happens with individual employers.....
