Bringing US spouse to Ireland

Post by Celticcross229 » Sun Apr 13, 2014 3:18 pm

Hey guys, firstly I'm a British citizen (Dad was full Irish, mom half but no matter). Now my wife is an American citizen and we currently reside in Texas with me as a perm resident. I'm wondering if we could move to Ireland and what the easiest route would be, would it just be a case of entering and going to the local Garda station?

Easiest route would be via the EEA laws. See: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/Lex ... 123:en:PDF
http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/EU ... hts%20FAQs

If you are not Irish (i.e. best not to apply for an Irish passport for yourself at this stage), you can take your non-EEA family members to Ireland to love off the back of your British citizenship. I'm not sure of the full details but you're definitely not the first person who has done this. You should search on this forum (Ireland section) to see how it works in practice.

If you have Irish citizenship you will not be able to use this method (if the Irish government/immigration authorities know about it).

I guess your wife will have an even easier time as she doesn't need an entry visa.
