British Citizenship - Advice Needed for Wife and Daughter's Application

Post by vbud » Wed Oct 22, 2025 7:56 pm

Dear Team,

I am a British Citizen by Naturalization on 21st May 2024. I am now applying for British Citizenship for both my wife and daughter, who were born in India and obtained their Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) on 1st January 2024. I want to seek advice on the following:

1. Can I add my daughter to my wife's application, or do I need to have separate applications for both of them? Please refer to the screenshot.

I need clarification on the following application questions:

Wife's Application:
- Do you have a biometric residence permit (BRP)? My response is "No" as their BRP expired on 31st December 2024. Is this correct?
- Do you have any dependants not applying with you at this time? My response is "No" as I am applying for my daughter as well.

Child Application:
- Are either of the parents of the child (as stated in this application) applying for naturalization as a British citizen on an AN form? My response is "Yes" as I am applying for both my wife and daughter.
- I would still like my child (as stated in this application) to be registered as a British citizen even if my own application for British citizenship is refused. My response is "Yes". Is this correct?

Under Parent's details - For Father, Have they always had the same nationality? I have chosen "No" to the question, as my previous nationality was Indian.

Also, could you please share the guidance on referees for my daughter?

Thanks in Advance,

Abhiram

Hi @contorted_svy

I have a few more questions:

I am filling out the application for my wife and daughter, and one of the questions asks, "Are you completing this form on behalf of someone else?" My response is "Yes" since I am filling out the application. Is this correct?

Regarding "Details of your trips outside the UK" - do we need to provide trip details from the last year or all trips after entering the UK?

Thanks,
Abhiram

My response is "Yes" since I am filling out the application. Is this correct? No - this is for if a solicitor fills it in for applicant, and represents the applicant.

Regarding "Details of your trips outside the UK" - do we need to provide trip details from the last year or all trips after entering the UKWife needs to fill it in for the residency period only, i.e. three years back from the application date. Not required for children.

Thanks,
Abhiram

Thank you for the guidance. I have submitted the application and encountered the document checklist. They are requesting the following documents for my daughter:
1. If Miss XXXXXXXXXX stated that her parent is settled in the UK, you must provide evidence of their settled status. This could include a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP), a letter from the Home Office, an endorsement in their passport, or another document certifying permanent residence.
2. If Miss XXXXXXXXXXXX stated that her parent is a British citizen, you must provide evidence of their citizenship. This could include their British passport, a certificate of citizenship, or their birth certificate.

Question: Do I need to provide both my citizenship certificate and my wife's settled status (Confirmation email from Home Office)?

Thanks,
Abhiram

What did you state? In any case, it can't hurt to upload both.

My Wife has "Settled - ILR" status, and I have British Citizenship. As it is a combined application, I think I have to submit both?

What did you answer in the application? You need to upload at least that. As you have proof of both, just upload both.
