Hello everyone,
I am making my way through the Form MN1 to apply for British Citizenship for my newborn son. He was born in the USA, I was born in the UK, as was my mother who continues to be a GB citizen and resident. I am married to my son's mother who is a US citizen.
Q1. Is section 3 (2) the correct section of the act to apply for his citizenship through?
Q2. I can account for my residence at one address in the UK without leaving from Nov of 82 through to Aug of 86 as I was child then and we didn't leave the country. Does that satisfy the residency requirement?
Q3. I can obtain/have obtained for Section 3:
My wife and I's marriage certificate
My son's birth certificate
My UK Birth Certificate
My Mother's Birth Certificate
My Mother's marriage certificate to my dad, married in the UK
Do these eliminate the need to be sending copies of passports?
Q4. I am confused by the Section 6 biometric aspect of the application. From my reading of the guide, it seems that, given my son is aged under 6, we merely need a digital photo of his uncovered face. Do we have to go all the way to New York to do this at the VFS visa office?
Q5. As he is under 10, he does not need the good character reference under Section 4. Correct?
Q6. Would his pediatrician and his day care provider, both US Citizens, be able to give him references? We do not know any convenient GB citizens who could complete Section 5.
Q7. I'd like to give the paperwork that I need to complete to my mother who will add her necessary paperwork to the envelope and then mail it from the UK to the correct office upon her return from a recent stay with us. Would this be OK or should I have my mother bring her paperwork here. She is nervous bringing originals with her.
Have I missed anything else? I have read through the guide several times and have completed the sections that I can. Please help if you have gone through this process yourself!
Thanks so much in advance
