Applying for British Citizenship soon

Post by cherylcas » Sun Nov 15, 2020 8:49 am

Hi,

My husband and I have been almost 2 years on ILR now and wanting to apply for British Citizenship.
I filled out my forms quite a long time ago and got references that were dated in February I think. Will I need to get new references if we send them in now?

And how is covid effecting Citizenship applications? Are they taking longer than usual?

Also has there been any development on the fee for registering children in the UK as British Citizens being reduced? I see its been put up again.

1. You will need new referee forms. February is too long ago.

2. There are some delays but not excessive.

3. No change in fees for children.

MN1 Form Question

Post by cherylcas » Sun Nov 29, 2020 8:19 pm

Hi,

I am going to be applying to register our daughter who is 2.5 for British Citizenship soon.
I was going through the form and I just wanted to ask about the referees.
The one that has to be a professional person, can I get her childminder to do this one? She is also a teacher, does that count?

It is a professional person who has engaged with the child in a professional capacity, not only a professional person. If that so, then yes.

Ok thank you.

And then just two more questions:
Question 1.9 asks for nationality. My daughter doesnt have a nationality yet, she was born here in the UK before we were naturalised.
My husband and I are South African but she obviously isnt South African either.

And then question 3.2, it says "during the reckonable 3 year period", what does that mean? Is that just the last 3 years?

Thank you for your help.

We are going to apply this week online.
What happens after we apply?
Do we have to post our documents in?
And if so, how long do we have to post our documents in?

What happens after we apply?
You'll be directed to the UKCVAS portal to book a biomterics appointment.
Do we have to post our documents in?
No. Nothing is posted anymore. It is all uploaded. Everything is uploaded to the ukcvas portal.

Ok great, thank you.

So yes, I will fill it online.

Do you need to know anything else to answer my previous questions?

Also, do we need to get a passport photo for my daughter who is 2 to apply?

Your daughter does not need any SA passport to be registered as a BC.

Passport photo is needed for referee forms.
My daughter doesnt have a nationality yet, she was born here in the UK before we were naturalised.
BTW when was your daughter born in UK? Did you have ILR at that time??

Ilr obtained in October 2018, based on previous posts. If the op doesn't have the ilr brp or a copy of it, they might have issues.

Then it seems like baby was born BEFORE parent had ILR i.e. settled as the child is 2.5yrs old?

Hi,

No we didn't have ILR when my daughter was born but we do have ILR and BRP now.

I was told previously that we just needed to apply to register her and pay for that. Is that not the case?

Hi,
I have a few questions please.

1. I have filled in all our forms to apply for Citizenship and its given me a list of document requirements.
What does this one mean:
"proof of freedom from immigration time restrictions"

2. My South African passport has expired in Sept 2018 and I haven't renewed it. Do i need to supply additional proof that I have been living in the UK between Sept 2018 and now?

3. For my 2 year old daughter do we need to apply using the MN1 form? She was born before we received our ILR.

4. For her application do we need to have a passport photo taken of her?

Thank you so much for your help.

Yes you will have to register your daughter as British Citizen first.

Your previous post was not clear. Do you now have ILR or you are a British Citizen now (as your previous post mentioned naturalisation). Does not matter though as you will have to follow the same procedure for your daughter as stated above.

Yes I know I asked the same questions to the CR001 because I have been dealing with her from the beginning so she knows the history and she also is the one that told me initially that I need to register my daughter as a British Citizen.

I am also finding it difficult to understand your answers as you don't reply as thoroughly as she does. It's as if you're in a big hurry when you're writing and you dont write full sentences.

Is it ok if I rather continue asking my questions to her?

1. Your ilr BRP cards.

2. Yes.

3. Yes.

4. For the referee forms yes. She will also need to enroll biomterics at ukcvas, ie a digital photo taken.

Thank you so much for the quick reply.

For question 2, the additional proof that I've been living in the UK, I was made redundant from my job due to covid in March 2020. How can I prove that I have been living in the UK since then without a letter from an employer.

Is it only letters from employers that I can use as proof or is there something else?

I am just worried about this delaying my application if I cant get hold of some of my employers.

Then, lastly, in the list of required documents, they also ask for my self assessment tax return but I only started working for myself in April so I wont have submitted one for this year yet. Is there something else I need to supply?
