"Dear XYZ

I am writing in regard to your outstanding application for British Citizenship,
We aim to process all applications within 6 months from the date submitted. However, in certain circumstances this target is not possible. Following our assessment of your case, unfortunately it appears your application will not be processed within the 6 months target.

Following recent clarification of the Nationality rules greater levels of scrutiny will he applied to certain applications. This will be dependent on certain indicators within their immigration history that pre-date the application for British citizenship. Your case has been identified as such a case and will not be decided within 6 months

We expect to make a decision on your application within the next 3 to 6 months but we will write to you again if this is not going, to be possible. Please note we will contact you with further updates and can advise you do not need to contact us again unless your circumstances change significantly.

Please do not contact the UKVI Contact Centre regarding the progress of your ease as they will not be able to provide any further information.
This also applies to any family members whose applications for citizenship were submitted at the same time.

Yours sincerely"

Just received the same letter today and was gutted by it not being the news we are all expecting. It seems its a standard reply they are sending to all those that have been waiting for this long.

I have never overstayed my previous visas here, and all the other countries i have visited have been with the British Army so that shouldn't be a problem at all. Looks like the wait continues.

What i am wondering though, is the 3-6 months we now have to wait from the date of this letter now, or is it from when the initial 6 months elapsed?

I am not sure what do in order to move things forward with my applications. I sent letters to the Home Office and my MP as well as I called the Citizenship Call Centre, but I have not received any fruitful answer.

I made a call two weeks ago, and the responding officer told that there is a great progress in your application and the caseworker might take a decision. a Week ago, I made a call to see any update about the application, the responding officer said that applicants whose applications made over six month would receive a letter regarding their situation. When I told him it would be a standard reply, he said you should wait for the letter and then call if you have any inquiry.

As I have not received the letter today, I called today and the responding officer told me that the application is in progress...imagine application received on 22/04/2014 and they answered it is still in progress. my concern is that the application has not been handled yet !!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all

Finally i have received the brown envelope with good news it was a long wait from 6 April 2014, wrote to complains dept and MP in November 2014 and received generic replies. 2 or 3 weeks ago i received a letter saying they it will take a further 3-6 months. I gave up and was not going to contact them until July 2015 but thank God i got the reply today. Now I m waiting for the invitation which will take 2 weeks so they say.

Keep the Faith

I can see there are 48 people browsing this website. how many of you have been waiting more than 6 months, do we have a common reason for the delay?

Finally got the confirmation today. After applying on the 06th of April 2014, almost a year later, we have got the letters in today, informing us to book the Citizenship ceremony.

This came after we received the letter a couple of weeks ago, saying that its gonna take another 3 to 6 months.

Keep the faith, even though it is annoying to wait and not be told about any progress.

Hi,
I called HO Monday 23/02 and they have said to me that my application is completed and I should receive the letter within 2 weeks. I have not received it yet.
On January I met my MP and she has contacted HO on my behalf. I have received a copy of their letter to the MP dated 16.02 saying that they have took the decision on my application and I should be receiving the letter in 10 days.
Hopefully everybody who applied on April would receive soon.Good luck all

Congrats kav4837! I am glad your wait is over. I am thinking that all this delay may because of the immigration report published last week..

Sorry to hear about your loss.
If you have your passport and BRP/ILR then you are free to travel and it shouldn't cause any problem.
You need to keep in mind though that if your application is approved, you need to arrange ceremony within few weeks and attend ceremony within 90 days.

*EDIT*
I have just read that you are a refugee, I am not sure what the consequences would be if you travel back to your home country.

I am very sorry to hear the loose of your brother. As a refugee you are not allowed to travel back to your country of original for any circumstances before the approval of your citizenship application. How ever if you want to the my advice for you to get visa in your nearest country and can crass the border. How long you were waiting for decisions. I was waiting since last year Feb 20 2014 applications and still waiting for decisions even MP environment is not helpful.
Best wishes.

I have just received the approval letter after a ten months and a half waiting. Relieved because I get rid of this useless waiting and deeply distraught as I come when I have lost my brother and could not go to suppy my family in Iraq. Anyhow, good luck for the waiting applicants.

Congrats. My experience was 11 months waiting, positive result at the end. Surprisingly it took just over 2 weeks to get a passport, from the day I submitted an application to the day when passport arrived. Passport interview was on Mon, passport arrived on Thurs.
