British Naturalisation application for child on expired ILR BRP card

Post by naravindnair » Fri Jan 13, 2023 4:34 pm

Hi,

I am a British citizen and my wife is also ILR whose BRP expiry in Dec 2024.

My 9-year daughter has an Indian passport expiring July 2023 and ILR BRP expiring in 5 days (My mistake, I missed checking the expiry on her ILR BRP card).

I was planning to apply for naturalisation and a British passport for my wife and daughter but now I am not sure if I can apply for naturalisation for my daughter with an expired BRP.

Please can you advise the next steps:
1. Can I apply for naturalisation for my daughter?
2. Should I apply to renew the ILR BRP card? Will the new ILR BRP card expiry date use the expiry date of the India password (July 2023) or is it given for 5 days for children under 18?

Please advise.

Correction in my original post:

I meant 5 years instead of 5 days in the below text.

"2. Should I apply to renew the ILR BRP card? Will the new ILR BRP card expiry date use the expiry date of the India password (July 2023) or is it given for 5 years for children under 18?"

1. Children are reagistered as British, only adults are naturalised.

2. No need to renew. The card expires, not the ILR status.

Thank you CR001 for responding so quickly. Really appreciate these advices.

So, I can go ahead with MN1 application with expired ILR BRP card and it should not impact daughter's application?
