British passport app without sending current passport

British passport app without sending current passport

Hi there

I have to travel abroad urgently so when I apply for a British passport I cannot send in my original foreign passport. If so can I make an application by just scanning the pages of my foreign passport ? Can I photocopy my passport myself at home or do I have to get a certified copy somewhere ?

It's a requirement my friend. No way around it. Not just for first time passport applications, but for all passport applications for every Brit on the face of the earth.

Except King Charles III of course that doesn't need a passport. :)

I just phoned the passport helpline and they said I can send a photocopy of my foreign passport instead of the original one and they also asked me to send a cover letter explaining the reason. So surely it must be fine if they said so ?

You must send original documents. Photocopies are not accepted.
Also:
You have a certificate of naturalisation or registration
You’ll need both:

your naturalisation or registration certificate
the passport you used to come into the UK or the foreign passport you’re included on
