Hi,

Finished the appointment today. Overall, it was very friendly and went quite good.

But, at the end the examiner mentioned that there are some internal checks to be done and you will hear us within 10 days. I asked him whether this is common for everyone and he said yes.

Just want to check with others whether the examiner reply is normal or is it just for me.

I attended in Reading Passport office and they mentioned that the passport is being printed in some other office.

I had a general query regarding passport application.

Here is my situation
I am going through the Naturalisation process at the moment (5 years Tier 1 + 1 year ILR).
Current citizenship: Indian
I applied on July 7th and am waiting for my approval letter.

I will need to travel to Singapore in a month's time.....this is not for pleasure and it's a very important trip and I might be there for 3-4 months.

Can you please advise me on the following?
- Are you allowed to travel before you get the British Passport?
- Can I apply for the British passport through the British Home Office in Singapore? (Although the official website had guidance that meant that I could apply from abroad, when I rang them up they said that I cannot apply for my first passport from outside the UK.)

Any guidance on this will be much appreciated.

Hi Sangpo,

How did you apply for naturalisation? via NCS OR POST? I take you have your current ILR with you, You can travel to singapore on ur indian passport (not sure if you need visa for singapore).
Unfortunately you cannot apply for irst adult passport from abroad. It requires HMPO interview at one of the interview centres.
I am only advising on my experience and knowledge.
If i were you, i would wait for approval letter and attend naturalisation ceremony and then travel.

Interesting reading above that people are being told that first adult passport applications cannot be made from overseas. As mentioned, the online information seems to suggest it is ok. Does anyone have more information on this - e.g. is this correct? Does it only apply to certain countries? I would have thought an interview could be conducted at the British Embassy. It seems crazy that British citizens are not able to obtain passports.

Yes Mike...it is very confusing as the guidance online is the opposite of what they told me on the phone. I am planning to contact the Singapore embassy and ask them directly.

If anyone else had successfully applied for their first passport at an overseas location, please share your experience.

update: received letter (dated 16/10/2014) today (21/10/2014) stating that my naturalisation certificate needed amending as it did not have a date! I rang the council office who conducted the ceremony and they will add the date for me tomorrow. I believe this should have been done by them at/prior to the ceremony. Pretty f**ked off really.
