Hi Jagjit1234,
Thanks man for the Reply.

Below thread suggests, we can get ROA within a month. Would the 'Right of Abode' better option? so that remaining things like Baby Birth Registration, Passport Application can be done in the UK itself? Any thoughts on this?
british-citizenship/roa-coe-for-a-briti ... 98979.html

By the way, All the best with your Application.

Best Wishes..
Jagjit1234 wrote:Hi Vapudi,

1.You do not need to prove any income for your child's passport. After submitting the application you can go back to UK and give your UK contact details for interview and any communication as the child will be claiming citizenship based on your citizenship.

2. Spouse visa takes 60 days to process and will be given 30 days visa to enter UK and collect resident permit.Child passport takes 16 weeks to 6 months depending on how application progresses. So its better to apply for wife's visa after you have received child's passport.I have not come across any restrictions to apply within a given timeframe.

3.You will find some people in this forum who have received child's passport in 3-4 months as well. It depends on how well you prepare your application I guess.

Hope the above helps.

Hello there,

How long did it take bangalore vfs to get back to you? Also can you please share the list of documentation you submitted. Finally I assume the mum and dad were in the same country for the interview to happen in pune.? Is that right?

Ive emailed chennai vfs and its been three days and not heard back from them yet.

Thanks,
Jijo

It is a well known fact that passport applications submitted in India or Pakistan can take up to 12 months. They are processed in the UK, not in the Embassy in your country. This is exactly why most members choose the RoA/CoE route as it is quicker and then apply for a passport once the child is in the UK using the fast track 1 week service.

Any British citizen who DOES NOT have a British passport is eligible for RoA/CoE. A child born abroad to a British citizen is automatically British by descent and qualifies for RoA/CoE.

No I don't have contact numbers, as mentioned, pointless complaining as it is well known that the process takes exceptionally long for applications in India.

We have been asked to appear for a video interview now. However, the UK numbers that are given are not at all reachable. They are 01913708167/7286/7393 and 7265.

1. Typically how much time it takes after the video interview?
2. Can we give the video interview at the local VFS office (in our case it is Pune)?
3. Do both parents have to be present at the video interview?
4. Are there any alternate numbers to schedule the video interview?
5. Does the baby need to be present for the interview?

Please guys your responses will be hugely helpful. Thanks.

Hi.. if you read through the forum it's got all the answers. However, you can use this link and it will give you the information you're after (Assuming you're applying from the passport from outside the UK), including the forms, the supporting documents and from where you can apply from.

Hope this helps.

a clarification on birth cerfitificates of parents

Father : naturalized british citizen
Mother: Holding ILR with Indian passport

Is 10th marks certificate enough as birth ceritificate? or passport or aadhar card?? we dont have any specific birth certifcate as usually 10th marks memo is recognized as birth certificate for any official purpose in the state

any idea of what to be submitted?

Hello svadala ,

I hope the above link would help you to apply a British passport from overseas including form, supporting documents and the way of apply.

In terms of birth certificate of parent, I did not submit any birth/educational certificate for me except passport & license. But for my wife, we submitted a birth certificate,10th and 12th mark sheets additionally.

I think you are very clear with other documents like parent's documents, marriage certificate, family photos (A4 size) and child documents as well.

You will get more idea if you read this SUBJECT thread from start. If not, post your comments anyway!

I know the timelines say atleast 16 weeks. But others have had their interviews by the 6th or 7th week or so but I haven't heard anything yet..

Thanks.

Hi All,

My wife and I are British Citizens, currently settled in Bangalore. I want to apply for a British passport for my newborn son. Could someone kindly help me ith the following queries:
1. Do I need to to register my son as British citizen before I can apply for a passport? Or is he automatically a British citizen? (My wife and I were British citizens at the time of my son's birth)
2. I called up VFS Bangalore and they said that they don't offer British passport services. However, passport.service.gov.uk website shows that Bangalore VFS offers this service. Has anyone got a passport done at Bangalore?
3. What are the documents that I need to submit? Will my wife and/or I have to submit our original passports?

Thanks for your kind help.
