After 2 weeks from posting, my special delivery with my supporting documents is due for delivery at HMPO Newport today.

Do you think I could phone up and request it to be expedited, given the circumstances?

Hope you paid/included a hard envelope now so its not crumbled again?
Once they start to work on your case and have granted the replacement (by photo proof), they will sent you email including an address in Southport to return your certificate.
We aren’t allowed to have two certificates at any time.
They advice (spoke to them on the phone) to post with the creased certificate a hard envelope with your return address, you could already pay for the Porto to make sure they will use that one and not the typical white flimsy envelope again they usually use. They will refund your Porto.
british-citizenship/naturalisation-cert ... 10985.html
Thanks CULLINAN, yes that’s what I did when I sent it first time.sent my documents in a hard envelope with care and got that returned is an acceptable state. They just simply don’t care 😡😡
Guy I spoke to said m not the first person who is complaining about this so they are getting this issue left right and Center. Hopefully someone will look into improving the overall process.
What I meant was, you should send a PRE-PAID return hard envelope for them to send you a replacement, otherwise they will again use their flimsy envelope for the new replacement.
How you doing cullinan . I just apply for my first passport on 15 of February and and 18 of February I did got a message that my documents have been received. Since then nothing change. I did phone them yesterday and they told me my application is in examination process. Please is any chance to let me know exactly what is happening. Thanks your help will be appreciated.

I'm also interested. The status of my application hasn't changed in the past month. I submitted an enquiry here https://eforms.homeoffice.gov.uk/outrea ... iries.ofml, they are supposed to respond within 72 hours, but I haven't got any response. Also tried emailing the HMPO, no reply.

I can see here https://www.gov.uk/passport-advice-line that after 8 weeks wait for the first passport after naturalisation one can contact the urgency passport helpline and I'm planning to do that when 8 weeks expire for me.

Is there anything else that can be done to find out why a passport application is not progressing?

This is very bad . Why is taking to long to issue a passport after naturalisation. I’m in a shock as well . I will advise you to contact your MP . And is going to write to them . This is not nice at all. I’m also waiting mine is 3 weeks now . I will update you as soon as I have got any news. Please email your MP and let him know what is going on . I know you are going through difficult time but you are not alone .keep pushing don’t seat there and watch them .

I received a response from the HMPO enquiries this morning actually, but they haven't answered all my questions. They just confirmed they started processing my application over a month ago and it's still under consideration. And they said in case the passport officer needs any information from me, they would contact me (it's been 6 weeks since I submitted my application, so if they need to contact me I would hope they would have already done so).

Soon it's going to be a year since my naturalisation application was approved and I still don't have a passport. My citizenship paperwork printing was affected by a "technical error" at the Home Office and my naturalisation certificate didn't get printed for months, now my passport application seems to be taking longer than average. I have no idea why. I've been in touch with my MP about the certificate printing. I'll wait a couple more weeks and call the passport emergency helpline. If they don't help sort it out and don't provide any explanation for the delay, I guess I'll submit a complaint and will contact my MP. By the way the HMPO recommends submitting a complaint on their website before reaching out to the MP: https://www.gov.uk/government/organisat ... -procedure.

It's been 6 weeks since I submitted my passport application, so I called this number. The agent told me that the average processing time for first passports after naturalisation is 6 weeks after the documents have been received (in my case HMPO took 1.5 weeks to move my application to "Processing" stage after Royal Mail confirmed that the documents have been delivered). So he said I should hopefully hear back very soon. The agent did look at the notes on my application and he said it is blocked on UKVI confirming to HMPO that I've attended a citizenship ceremony. My naturalisation application was affected by a "technical error" on UKVI side and my citizenship certificate was't printed for 9 months. After I finally attended the ceremony and got the certificate, I asked the council to confirm it's all done and they confirmed to me (in writing) that they let the HO know of my attendance and that my passport application should be smooth. Well, not quite..

I submitted a complaint to the HO saying that once again my application is blocked by UKVI and I'd like them to make sure that all the consequences of the "technical error" have been rectified.
The agent on the helpline told me he'll let HMPO know that I called and that I attended the ceremony (the HMPO has my original naturalisation certifcate..) and that I should call in a week if I don't get any updates by then. I'll keep you posted.

I just received email from them today. I can confirm that your application was received and administered onto our system. The application is currently with an examiner who will contact you directly if any further documentation or information is required

It turned out that my council forgot to inform the Home Office that I attended the ceremony and this is the reason why my passport application wasn't progressing. The council has sent the records to the Home Office now. I'll post how long it will take to resolve.

If for some reason your passport application is not progressing it's worth calling the HMPO helpline - they have access to the notes on the application and can shed some light on the reasons for the delay.

My application got approved.
It's frustrating I had to wait 6 weeks to be able to ask about the reason for the delay. But HMPO support was very helpful, they told me why the application was pending for so long. After I reached out to the council, they sent the records to the HO quite quickly and the HMPO approved my application within a working day.

You don’t need travel document after having a British passport. You should have send it back to them after your ceremony

You can request TDS in writing.

Page 50:
Holders of HOTDs who have become British citizens
When a person becomes a British citizen they no longer qualify for an HOTD. TDS must destroy the HOTD and, on request, must return any national passport previously kept by TDS to the holder by recorded delivery post.
