I am having to reapply for my ROA due to an expiring NZ passport. Is anyone aware if this would take less time than an initial application. When I first applied 4 years ago it took about 20 days from confirmation of application to dispatch email. This application was when I was living in Australia, so the visa was issued in Manila(?)
I reapplied in November 2017, received my confirmation of application and payment taken on 1st December 2017, but have had no updates since then. I am factoring in Xmas delays, but by reading through the forum I may be in for quite a wait.

Also are the any government benefits or assistance available - I am running out of things to sell :/

Cheers

David
Hi David,

I reapplied my ROA in April, it has been more than a month from confirmation of application email. I am wondering if you got back your passport already? If yes, when?
It is a little worrying as 5 years ago when I applied it took exactly 21 days for it to come back to me.
Please advise.

Thank you.

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me with renewal of ROA application?

Its for 5 year old daughter who is Indian citizen (Born in 2013). Got her new Indian passport hence need to make fresh application for ROA.
Father and mother British Citizen.

- Do we need to send old passport with the application?
- Do we need to send marriage certificate with the application (Its an Indian Marriage certificate in English)?
- Section 3 declaration (who needs to sign) ?
- Do we need to send prepaid envelope for return of the documents?

Also what are the current timelines?

Thanks

Re: Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode and the NHS

Post by inthewaitingroom » Mon Jun 25, 2018 4:12 pm

I had the cert. of entitlement to RofA, which expired with my passport. Have renewed the passport (Cdn) and resubmitted an application for the certificate to be put in my new passport. All is well there. Last one took 10 weeks to process, so if timing is similar would hope to get my passport back by mid-August.

I just received a call today from my Health Centre saying that since the old RofA is expired, I can't be covered by NHS until my passport with new cert. if received and they have a copy of it.

Any NHS services, including medications, will have to be paid for privately.

Has anyone else run into this? I couldn't see anything in any of the RofA postings that referred to NHS.

I think that they are wrong.

A Certificate of Entitlement to the Right of Abode doesn't confer the Right of Abode, but is just evidence/confirmation of the status, similar to a British passport. Assuming that the holder was rightly entitled to the status, the Right of Abode doesn't suddenly cease on expiry of the Certificate.

Hi my cert of ent to the ROA has expired
In year 2002 I am in the uk ever since
I’m looking to apply for uk passport
Would passport office accept my roa on a expired passport as one of the document
Or do I need a new COE application then apply
For uk passport and by the way I was born abroad after 1983 to a British father

And also is roa status confirmation that you are
British regardless wether you hold uk passport or not?
Many thanks

Similar to a British passport, a CoE doesn’t confer RoA, but is merely evidence of RoA. Therefore, it’s better if you show how you were entitled to the expired CoE in the first place.

You may supply the same documents when applying for either the CoE or British passport. You don’t need to apply for another CoE, if you are applying for a British passport. They will cancel your CoE anyway when they issue the British passport, so applying for a CoE would be a waste of time and money.

I agree with you Vinny, but the problem comes in explaining this point to other people. Like banks, and NHS. Someone said to me 'Wow, you were lucky to find that loophole'. I tried to explain it wasn't a 'loophole', but I could see I wasn't getting anywhere.

I showed the health centre the letter of acknowledgement and they have decided that will suffice and I'll be eligible for NHS services until my passport is returned with certificate.

At this point, it's been 13 weeks and I'm still waiting. Was 10 weeks last time.

I recently applied for a Right of Abode having been born in the UK before 1st January 1983.

Today I received an email from the UKVI and I am quoting a part of the mail below. Can anyone tell me what the quoted part below portends regarding my application.

"Unfortunately, the processing of your application has not been straightforward and we will be unable to decide your application within our customer service targets. We are continuing to work on your application and aim to make a decision as soon as possible.

We will write to you again if there is any change to this. Please do not attend the Visa Application Centre until you have been advised that your application has been decided and that your passport is ready for collection.

Kind Regards,

UK Decision Making Centre".

Hello all. Great discussion.

Wanted to give my timeline of applying for Cert of Ent of ROA for my two daughters. I am British born, married to a Malaysian and my daughters were born in Malaysia.

Submitted application to VFS in Kuala Lumpur on the 3rd of August.

Received email from UKVI Sheffield on the 9th of August.

Passports couriered back to me and arrived 30th of August.

I submitted:
My UK birth cert
UK marriage cert
Daughters consular birth certs
Local/Malaysian birth certs with English translation
TB certificiates
Letter of support

I included colour copies of everything, and paid VFS to certify main documents. They gave me back my originals and scanned the colour copies.

Hi,

I have posted all relevant documents to the home office for the renewal of my right of abode on my new passport. I have sent it off at the end of December and it is now still processing. I requested my passport back from the home office as I had some important matters to attend to the require me to travel back to Malaysia. I am currently waiting for the home office to send me a letter in request for the return of my passport in order to process the renewal of my right of abode. Now I am back in the UK and stuck here not being able to have a job, and just waiting for the renewal. What should I do and how long will it take. Is there any action I can take or contact details I can email too? Also am I able to work in my situation now? Please advise. Many thanks!! I’m very confused!

Hi, quick question to gurus:
if I already have a BP(expired, but so far uncancelled) but HO is now refusing to renew it becuase my married name is different, can I still apply for RoA sticker in my Canadian passport?
The HO site says: "no BP can be cancelled prior to a new one being issued first"...
I'm in a bit of conundrum here, as am not sure mine will be cancelled after unsuccessful renewal.
Potentially I can leave the country, but cannot come back (as I am a BC and have to show a BP... ???

Apologies if this question has been asked before. If one is to apply for the COE/ROA on behalf of their newborn then how to address the questions in the online form such as provide address for the last 2 years etc? Specially if the baby is born in a different country and that's where the application is being made (outside UK)?
Do the parents provide the current/contact address in which they are temporarily staying (outside UK) and then past 2 years would be UK addresses (parents permanent addresses)?
Please help. Thanks

Hi

I have RoA through marriage under Section 2(2). I have recently renewed my Australian passport and sent my application away for a new CoE a few months ago. Just wondering what the current wait times seem to be and what effect on the application asking for my passport back might have.

I admit to also being curious about discussions of the RoA applications that seem to need biometric data. My application doesn't need this but not sure why others would.

Cheers😊

Hello,

I am looking to apply CoE-ROA for my 18 months old son, born in India and currently in India. However, I have the following doubts:

1. I will be submitting the following documents to VFS in India, but are these enough:

a. Child (applicant)'s Indian Passport
b. Parent's Birth Certificate
c. Father's naturalisation Certificate
d. Mother's Birth Certificate
e. Letter of Consent from father and mother (signed by both Parent)

2. I found that the mother's name on Child Passport, Birth Certificate and Marriage Certificate is slightly different in all three documents. Child's passport has the mother's post marriage surname, marriage certifcate has mother's maiden name and mother's birth certificate has a different surname altogether (different from marriage certificate and child's passport). What can be done in this scenario? Do I need to submit any other document to explain difference in mother's name in all these 3 documents?

3. Some of the documents like Child's birth certificate is laminated, will that be a problem?

If any one can advise on the above 3 questions, that would be great.

Many thanks :)

Your son is automatically British and may apply for either a British passport or a CoE-RoA.
