Did my invitation expire !

Hi guys,

My lawyer received invitation today and I just noticed that in the letter it says, I must book appointment within 21 days of the date in the letter. The letter is dated on 22nd September. Today is 14th of October. This is far more than 21 days. What happens now? I'm slightly worried suddenly ! Did my invitation expire !!! Can someone please advice.

As far as I can tell from other members' feedback, the local councils are not enforcing the 21-day rule. You need to attend your ceremony within six months from the date of the letter, which in your case would be before 21 March 2021. However, I would reach out to book the ceremony as soon as reasonably practicable, just to get it out of the way, if I were you.

Finally, do you mind me asking what your approval date is?

Hi,

That's the plan ! I want to book it tomorrow. I literally just got an email from my lawyer and the council is closed for the day. I'll have it booked for tomorrow.

And here's all my date;

Applied late February 2020
Biometric 10th of June
Approbal 16th of June (dated in letter/ no email received)
Approval letter received 19th of June
Invitation received 14th Oct 2020

I doubt all the letters will arrive in 15 days. Maybe they actually plan to sent all the letters for people approved before 7th of August when they resumed printing. This is possible, but still it will take two weeks from letters being sent before they will arrive. So far baybars' model works better than HO information. So let's be patient and hope there won't be another lockdown.

Hi U Aziz

How was your ceremony ?
Did Hillingdon council let you attend the ceremony without the invitation letter ?

Regards

First of all many thanks to Baybars

I have been following this topic for some time as I’m awaiting for citizenship ceremony invitation since 17th July when I received the email of approval. It was quite stressful having to wait in dark without any information from HO apart from ‘keep waiting’. This platform is giving hope!

If anyone from Islington council can update about their timeline if they received the invitation recently it would be much appreciated.

Good luck and please keep us posted. It will be interesting to see when late August approvals are being processed for ceremony invites. So far, we've seen some approved in early July receive their invitation letters. The most recent approval date on this forum, that I am aware of, is 10 July 2020. So, yes, still a while to go, but hopefully, in about a months' time, this saga will be in the rear-view mirror for you.

Good news everyone! My wife received her invitation letter and it is dated 8th October. I tried to book citizenship ceremony with Bradford Council but they couldn't do it either due to being short staffed so someone is just taking details and to ring up next week or they haven't received the documents from HO. I'm tempted to ring tomorrow but waiting this long and considering they're probably working as fast as they can then might be worth waiting.

Online application sent: 9th March
Payment debited: 9th March
Date biometrics enrolled: 6th July
Letter approval received: 14th July
Invitation letter: 8th October.

Great!
It seems they start to speed up and don’t let letters laying for 3 weeks anymore (never got the point of this).

So there’s hope now!

The approval date on the letter itself is 14th July. Unfortunately, I can't remember when it arrived through the post. Sorry!

Thanks, I needed only the approval date, not when the approval letter arrived. This is now the most recent approval for which the invitation has been received. Congrats and all the best.
