Re: Citizenship Ceremony cancelled due to Covid-19

I'm finally British. As per instructions in the Croydon Register Office website I tried to book a private ceremony by mail. I've only received auto reply that I will be replied in 10 working days. After 10 working days, yesterday, I called the number for group ceremonies only. Of course they are suspended. Fortunately the advisor was very nice and contacted the private ceremony person and she called me back and booked me for today's morning.
So if anyone from Croydon wants to have a private ceremony, it is better to not only send an email as the website states, but also call the group ceremonies phone. Expect half an hour listening to the music before someone answer. It is worth waiting as they are nice and helpful.
Good luck to everyone.

Hi all, on Nov 8th, we contacted the HO at Citizenship.Support@homeoffice.gov.uk. We had a response yesterday and they advised that they are processing certificates for those applications approved in mid Sept. They also advised that after lockdown restrictions are lifted, they expect to increase producing these certificates.

So fingers crossed, they'll be up to date soon.

One of my friend who was September approval got her invitation too.
According to her

Approval: 11th Sep
Invitation Letter sent : 4th Nov
Invitation Letter received: 15th Nov
Council: Greenwich
Ceremony Date: Group Ceremony 28th Jan 2021 (she says this is the earliest she could find, she called them rather than book online).

I am 21st Oct approval so wait continues for me....

Redbridge council, does anybody knows how long it takes them to call back to arrange ceremony after submitting an email? I emailed them Saturday 21/11 to book ceremony but didn’t hear anything since

I emailed Redbridge Council on Monday 23/11/20 with my details and invitation letter for ceremony booking, no update so far.

Called them yesterday and asked if Council has received my certificate and email, being told citizenship team will reply to the email within 5 working days.

Asked customer service lady to put me through to the citizenship dept but she did not and said, send them email and team will email back. Waiting continues .....

I will update here if there is any news and expect from other members to do the same. Thanks

HI dogcat,

any update from Lancashire County Council Preston

Thanks for the updates but their website says that, they have cancelled all the ceremonies due to recent lockdown

Indeed. I was told that they are 'considering' virtual ceremonies.

that will be great

@raij, I can only suggest that you contact them straight away via that email address. It's now way past the 12 weeks you've been waiting.

Congrats great news! Did it cost extra for the private ceremony and if so how much if you don't mind me asking?

Hello all,

Is there anyone in Havering please?

I've read several times on this forum that Havering council is quite good and are conducting ceremonies but on emailing the council, I got an email saying they do not have any ceremonies at the moment.
A user posted on Monday that they will be attending their ceremony on 1st December but Havering has told me there are no ceremonies on that date.

Now I'm worried. Have I contacted the wrong person, is there something else I'm not aware of? Anyone in Havering, please kindly respond.

Approval email - 25th August
Invitation letter - 21st November
Havering confirmed they have my certificate

Thank you.

Baybars1, thanks a lot, mate.
That's exactly what I needed to know.
Including possibility changing the name(s) when applying for the first British passport.
I was thinking to do so, but seems like I will have to change first, my name in the country, issued original passport....
God bless, amigo.

Hi all,

Good news, I was approved September 21st. Cardiff Council just emailed saying they have my certificate.
Invitation letter is yet to arrive, but ceremony booked for 3rd Dec.

Thanks all for your help, particularly @baybars1, your model was spot on.

Good luck to all that are waiting.

Did you do anything else to get an explanation from the HO about why all the timelines have passed and the certificate still hasn't arrived? I'm waiting for 7 months already and wondering if there is any escalation if none of the HO support channels respond.

Is anyone experiencing the same issue with Westminster council please? Did you manage to book a ceremony? Thank you
Yes having the same problem! Every day you get a different answer on the phone, no replies to my emails. Very frustrating was hoping to complete the process this year for various reasons.
I received a call back from Westminster that the booking page is now up and running again. If you still encounter problems just keep on calling until you get to speak to a registrar. Don't bother calling before 10am. I finally got through after the tenth time trying. Was offered a same day private ceremony appointment!
Best of luck to everyone here!

Thank you for your reply, I emailed citizenship@havering.co.uk and got a reply from the Citizenship and Nationality Officer.
The first email said 'I can confirm we have received your paperwork from the Home Office but at present we are waiting to schedule in more dates for the Citizenship Appointments.
I will keep your email and once I know the new appointment dates – whether they are in person or virtual – I will contact you.

I replied asking about 1st Dec or even private ceremonies but I got a reply saying
At present I do not have any dates available for either group, private or virtual. We are working as hard as possible to try and find some more dates to be able to offer.
As for the 1 December dates, I am unsure where you received this information but this date has not been offered for any appointments.

When another user said on Monday that they booked their ceremony for 1st Dec.

It's all confusing.

@raij, I can only suggest that you contact them straight away via that email address. It's now way past the 12 weeks you've been waiting.

Already did , i actually got a phone call from UKVI , after i phoned them to complain about a copy and paste email i received , that does not answer why i am waiting 25 weeks now for invite . they advised me to wait for it .... email again .
Did you do anything else to get an explanation from the HO about why all the timelines have passed and the certificate still hasn't arrived? I'm waiting for 7 months already and wondering if there is any escalation if none of the HO support channels respond.
besides phonning no , and emailing - but i still did not get any info about my case - today i been to,d to email FurtherNationalityEnquiries@homeoffice.gov.uk apparently they respond now within 20 days :( . o asked mp for help to , but i guess hes still waiting for reply too.
it is shocking how long we are made to wait
I emailed FurtherNationalityEnquiries@homeoffice.gov.uk a month and a half ago, got an automatic response that their service standard is 20 working days, but they still haven't responded. No luck with citizenship.support either. I got a response after 3 months, but it was a one liner to say they don't have any concrete information about my application.
The Coronavirus support help line has now acknowledged to me that by now I should have received an invitation (before November they were just saying I need to wait longer although it was already half a year).

I'm wondering if there is a way to make them investigate specific cases - if something has gone wrong with these applications it's not likely to get sorted out on it's own...

Re: Citizenship Ceremony cancelled due to Covid-19

Please can someone help and respond to my message. I’m so stressed out. My certificate is with Harrow council since 28th of October and they are not willing to book me for the ceremony because I still haven’t received this silly invitation letter.

I have contacted the local MP who instead of requesting the council to allow me to attend and collect my certificate has instead decided to contact home office for my letter. I have a feeling home office will not get back to this MP on time and this will be another waiting game for me now.

My approval Email came on 10th July 2020 and now it’s nearly the end to November but still there is no sign of this letter 😞 😢
I have other things to do in life and feel so stuck!

Please is anyone here waiting for the letter who got approval in July 2020?

Hi buddy, just keep waiting and stay strong is all I can say. Allah will reward you just be patient. I know how it feels for every delay there is a good thing. What I learned in this country is it will get done when it gets done.

What you can do is:

Ask citizens Advice about your rights IF you can do it with out the invitation letter. Call them tomorrow and see what they say

I believe @minikube is in this situation.
I've been waiting for many months now, but with the difference there's no sign of my certificate, so no hope to sort it out just with the council.
I asked a lawyer opinion about my situation and he said the best is to try to follow up with the MP because apparently the HO MUST reply to MPs and it's unusual if they don't. So probably you should ask your MP for updates until they sort this out for you.
