First British Passport - Uncancelled passport submitted for renewal

Hi,

I have received registration of citizenship certificate for my daughter who was born here and applied registration of citizenship (MN1) after parents got ILR. However we had applied for her Indian passport renewal (it was expiring in March) as we need to travel in March. Now I want to apply for British passport as we have already got citizenship for daughter. application requires unconcealed passport to be sent which is with Indian embassy. Can anyone give a suggestion if anyone had any experience around this?

- can we apply British passport and send a copy of Indian passport explaining everything in a covering letter along with renewal receipt from Indian embassy?
- can we withdraw application from Indian embassy and get passport back?


I didn't realise from gov.uk site that we will have to send foreign passport as well and in such mess.

If you don't send the original of the uncancelled passport your application will be rejected. Might be best to cancel renewal of her Indian passport, get the old one back ASAP, and apply for British passport - and sort renewing the Indian one after you are back. I wouldn't know how to go about it though or how easy/quick it is. Suggest asking this specific question in the ''all other countries'' subforum and see if it is viable.

Thank you for reply. I contacted the uk passport helpline and was advised that colored copy of passport with a cover letter will be fine. Does it seem right?

Is it her first British passport? it is worth noting that advisors on HMPO helpline don't always give correct advice, they are not caseworkers. You can do as they advise, but be prepared your application may be refused and lose some money and time.

Sounds a bit strange to me that a caseworker would accepted a colour photocopy for a first passport.
