Hi All,

I am going to apply for Naturalisation/citizenship in the next few days. I have ILR for more than 12 months now (was on Tier 1 for 5 years before the ILR)

I passed the Ielts test in 2009 and used it with my first tier 1 applciation.

It is expired now (as ielts is only for 2 years). CAN I use it with my Naturalisation/citizenship appcliation for ENGLISH LANGUAGE Proof OR do i need to do the ielts again...There are different answers on the website

My Ielts test expired in 2011. is there any official statement on homeoffice website where it says EXPIRED IELTS test are accpeted for Naturalisation/citizenship
On this forum, i am reading , some poeple are saying expired ielts tests are ok, some are saying not.

Please advise

email them your question on this address: KnowledgeOfLifePolicyQueries@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk

You'll get a fact sheet, attached with an automated reply, that mentions expiry dates don't apply for citizenship applications. You'll also get a reply to tell you the same thing. I got this reply from home office the same day I sent them the query:

"The Home Office will accept an expired IELTS certificate for citizenship purposes."

hope it helps!

Do I really need to send them an email and get a reply to attach with applciation?

OR

is there any official page where it syas that expired IELTS test is acceptable?

Hi,
I am about to do my passport application today and have a few question:.
Should I also send my cancelled passport that has expired? It contains the visa I used to first enter the country.
Do I send my ILR card with my application?

Thanks. Apologies if this was asked and answered before.
======================================
So to answer my own questions... I read the guidance that was enclosed  .... they say you should send any cancelled passports as well.
However, the form only asks for the numbers of uncancelled passports.
I don't think ILR card is required as it's not mentioned in the guidance booklet.

Hello

If you use Fast Track service(1 week), do they send the passport and documents through Royal mail or other courier?

Thanks

Hello,

I have applied for Naturalisation under 5Yr + 1Yr ILR Category in late Sep 2014. I udnerstand the wait is for 3-4 months now. Few questions I would appreciate if some experts can assist or direct to where it is more clearly stated.

My situation - Current passport expires in March 2015 (can extend) & I have a travel plan in Feb 2015

Questions:

1) How soon or late can I book Oath ceremony after I receive Naturalisation approval letter?
2) How long can I continue to use Current valid passport after receiving the Naturalisation certificate (after Oath ceremony).

Thanks in advance for your response.

Hi Gnan,

Once you will receive the approval letter, you will need to book your oath ceremony within 14 days and the ceremony must take place within three month of the approval letter issue date.

I hope this answer your questions.

Best of luck

Thanks Alisha. That answers part of my question.

If you have any idea can you let me know how long can I have my Naturalisation certificate and use my non-Uk passport for travel.

Hi There,

Check if you country allows dual citizenship. It really depends on your native country. Some countries do not allow dual citizenship, however they have special schemes to give privileges equivalent or a little lesser to former citizens.

If your country does not allow dual citizenship, you might have to surrender your passport and apply for some other status. In any-case almost all countries will allow natives to come in and go out freely by some means.

I hope answer the question

I got refused back in June because they said initially that I had not done the LIUK test - which was not true and also that I didnt have a relevant english qualification - I.G.C.S.E (I had applied before they removed it from their approved list). Made a complaint as I had passed the test and my English qualification was valid at the time of application and my reconsideration request was approved.

General discussion after BC and Passport application

Post by neverbackdown » Wed Nov 05, 2014 11:18 am

hi Respected Gurus,

I attended my citiznship ceremony tomorro and abt to apply for British Passport now. however i do have a question once Passport has ben issued.

i might be travelling to another country soon for my new job.
i was under impression that i will not have any restrictions on travelling to/from UK or staying in UK once i am naturalised however someone said to me that if i leave the country soon after being naturalised i might get questioned upon my return to UK as i owuld have left the country soon after i got British Passport which might give an impression that i was only staying in this country for citizenship.

can you please clarify could there be an issue if i leave UK for a longer period soon after being naturalised?

once again thanks for all the support and guidance. this forum has been a huge support during my 12 years journey to citizenship

Thanks & Regards

Are you going to be interviewed for a company established in the UK (ie the one that has a representative office and pays taxes here)? If yes, then you needn't worry. If you check AN form carefully, you will notice that the exception to this rule is made in this case.

You can also always say that your job overseas was temporary and your intention was always to make UK your permanent home.

I have never heard of a single case when anyone was stripped of their UK citizenship for these reasons.

hi mat,

thanks for coming back. unfortunately my potential new company has not got a representative office or pay taxes in UK.

I agree with you that i cant be stripped off UK citizenship but recently a friend of mine experienced something like that. he had to go back for over a year soon after he was naturalised as his father was diagnosed with some serious illness and he had to go to look after him and stayed ther for about 15 months. He told me that on his return he was asked to reinstate his citizenship.
to me it sounds like my friend is either exagerating or he has not been treated fairly by UKBA,
do you know if that can happen?

cheers

I don't for a second believe that he was told to "reinstate his citizenship". For one thing, immigration officers don't have the power to strip anyone of citizenship. It's a long and complicated procedure, where one has to prove in court that the citizenship was obtained by fraud. Alternatively, the secretary of state (but not immigration officer) may cancel citizenship if one is a national security threat, but that's a completely different story.

For another, I have never heard of "reinstating procedure". If the citizenship is lost, it is lost, one has to start from scratch.

Any advise?

The home office has all my paperwork since 1/9/14, my current passport is about to expire (which is with the HO) and I will be travelling in January. What should I do?

You probably need to ask for your documents back in order to apply for a new passport.

Yes, you can travel on any passport. However to get back into the UK you need to
a) get a boarding pass from the airline so you'll need proof of your ILR (BRP card or passport with visa, natutralisation certificate may not be sufficient).
b) join the UK/EU/EEA immigration queue on the UK side and show your passport and your naturalisation certificate and/or BRP card.

if the letter has council contact number, just phone them up and arrange ceremony.
