My application for naturalization has been refused today.

The refusal letter says I did not fulfill the good character requirement. The letter said I stated in the application that I was self-employed during the time of overstay from 31st July 2012 to 13 Jan 2013.

I was registered as self-employed during these dates but I didn't work and the HMRC record shows I did not pay even class 2 NI contribution.

I am thinking to appeal the decision as registered self-employed never means working. I did not work in the described dates and get supported by the church. My HMRC recorded also showed no tax or NI in 2012. I will add a church letter of support and a letter from HMRC to show no working in these dates.
What process shall I follow?
How much is the fee of appeal?
Anyone can advise or help in this matter?
You cannot appeal a refused citizenship application. You only have the option to ask for a reconsideration, which costs £372 and can take as long as HO deems necessary.
If you have overstayed between 2012-2013 you shouldn't have applied. If you overstayed you have break immigration rules and you ought to have lived in the UK legally for 10years before you can apply for naturalization.
It's not overstay in 2012-2013. It is because I wrote in the application that I was working during overstay time. Working is a breach of immigration rule for a person with a refugee route. A friend of mine wrote nothing about work during his overstay. The caseworker sent him a form to complete that how he regularised himself. He includes the letter of support from a friend and sends the farms back. A couple of weeks after he got approval.

In my case, I thought to reconsideration but I decided to not lodge the appeal and waite for 3 more years for a clean 10 years history. If the home office finds any forge, bad quality or manipulates to get the nationality, they can cancel it, especially when visiting abroad. I keep reading news and is better to take a safe route.
Hi MoIQ,
Sorry to see they refused your application.
Did you receive any email like you will be contacted in 21 days or a decision made on your case before receiving the refusal?

Hi MoIQ,

Did you receive an email like you will be contacted in 21 days or a decision made on your case before receiving the refusal?
No 21 days e-mail was recieved. I actually contacted HO on 3rd Fab, then 11 February but there was no reply at all. I requested a local MP to write an e-mail to the HO on 10 Fab.

I recieved the white plastic envelop contained 2 letters. Letter 1 was issued on 4 January (caseworker) and the other one was issued on 18th February (chief caseworker) confirming the refusal of my application.
The letter clearly said that I was overstayed until the asylum was granted. I have to complete 10 years of clean history to meet good character requirements.

The letter suggested that the right time to apply the naturalization is 2023. However, I am open to apply but it will be refused again.

Good Morning guys ,
Is there anyone who has made another application after previous refusal due to the 10year clean record? No criminal record though.
I am so nervous even though my case is straight forward but HO is unpredictable

I know I kind of asked this on my own thread but I was hoping for someone with experience.

My partner and our two children (both under 10) applied under my main application as a single family.

Will the HO send us their decisions in one letter, or will they send each decision individually?

No need to post multiple times. The answer doesn't change as has already been answered in your own topic!!!

Yes, thank you. I did mention that.

I'm not sure that the answer was from experience and, as mentioned, I wonder if there was anyone with a similar experience.

I'd even go so far as to revel in a hyperlink to any other topic or forum where this is mentioned. I wouldn't bother asking if I could find the answer anywhere on the Internet...which I really can't

Hi everyone,
Just want to share an experience with my naturalisation application !!!especially, for people who ve been worrying waiting!!!
Date of application: 19/09/19
It s online application, i thought, should be a straight forward case as I ve been leaving in U.K. for 11 years. I m a non EU, come to U.K. as a student visa, had a MSc degree from U.K.! Married to EU citizen and got two kids. Always been working, no criminal offence records or any debt.

I ve been worry I might done something wrong!!!A Friend who has more complicated case got approve in 8 weeks. Or if it s a case because only me apply this time.

Until this month I have changed my job! So, I decided to send them an email which I got from this forum on 3rd February 2020, telling them about my new job and kindly ask for an update but surprisingly no reply from them at all not even acknowledged email. I was worry sick!!!

A week later on the 10th February, I decided to fill the Change circumstances form online again as I got no reply from them. I plan to send email to another email address again In coming week.

But by surprise on 20th February I received a brown envelope alongside with the letter from the council booked me in for a ceremony in April!
Date of approval was 10th February 2020! Letter from council date 17th February 2020! I m over the moon. Waiting games is over! Still don’t get the logic of processing application!!
Best of luck for everyone who waiting and do send them an email if you re worry!!
Thank you to everyone on this board, every comments! Very helpful!

21/02/2020 -I sent an email to HO asking if my case has been allocated to a caseworker - they replied today saying:

Dear applicant,

Thank you for your email.

We have noted our systems with enquiry.

A caseworker will contact you if they require any further information from you throughout the course of the application process. Please note; we will not contact you to provide regular updates and cannot provide a definitive application processing timescale.
Your application will now continue to progress until a decision is made.

It was not explicitly answered whether the caseworker is already dealing with my case or is still waiting for consideration. Based on your experience - what do you think?

You applied just under two calendar months ago ....
Pure speculation, but I doubt whether there is one case worker dealing with an application from receipt to decision, there must be various levels involved, and UKVI don't tell us how their processes are organised. As they say, you won't be informed of every step - the next communication you will likely get is the decision letter and it may be sooner than you expect. Hope it goes well. There are quite a few members on here who are waiting 6+ months.

Thank you for contacting UKVI Contact Centre.

Please be advised that a decision has been despatched via 2nd class post.

Date posted: 19TH FEBRUARY 2020

If you have not received your decision within 10 working days of the date posted please email FurtherNationalityEnquiries@homeoffice.gov.uk. I send my application on 31/07/2019. After calling to check my updated with the ukvi contact centre a few hrs later they sent me this email . My question is since I moved to a new address and filled the form online and send also by post ,and they confirmed my address has been updated. Just wandering why second class post is 10 days working days when I know he may take 3 to 4 days , and may they didn’t update my address
