Well.

For me, it is almost 6 months (it will be 6 months in 10 days). I haven't received any emails or letters from home office, not even the standard "we will exceed the 6 months bla bla bla".

I am worried if they have sent a letter and it was lost. I haven't been calling the council regularly, so i am worried what if the letters were lost in the post and the naturalisation certificates (for me and my wife) were returned to home office....

From experience, what is the best way to see if that worst case scenario is what happened? Or should I just wait for another 10 days until it is exactly 6 months then email the home office? Or maybe the MP?

Receiving benefits is irrelevant to the processing time. Citizenship can take up to 6 months, often longer.

But what if the 6 months elapse without any communication from HO at all?

I did clearly state it can take longer. There really ain't much you can do other than wait, assuming UKVI have all your correct contact and address details.

You can send HO an email to request an update, if it takes longer to process they will send you the standard reply of delay then I guess you just need to wait, just like what I have been doing (passed 6 months last Monday when I then received the standard reply) :?

Thanks Hkg. This was my point. I see that in your case they sent that email exactly 6 months, not earlier..

I may just wait, with phoning the council every now and then to check if they received the naturalization certificates.

Thanks again.

Hi my fellow February timeline applicants !
I’ve just finished to read some recent posts about the delay. Pretty much the same situation I am in.
I applied on the 25/02/2021 , got a letter of acknowledgment on the 1/3/2021, biometrics done on the 25/3/2021…. and there’s no update since then.
I am getting worried already , especially after seeing looots of March and even April applications getting approvals! Really annoying!

The purpose of my post? Just venting out 😡😩

similar feelings here. I applied joint with my husband and our daughter, we applied on 4th March online, got email acknowledgment on 5th March, biometrics on 31st March and still not a word heard back. It makes me so frustrated to see that a lot of applications were approved for people applying later than us and honestly, even though it is joint application for 3 of us, we have a super straightforward application, nothing complicated in it so not sure why on Earth it is taking so long... vent over.

Totally understand. But seeing some posts where they’re even asking for biometrics after it had been done already, that says a lot about their incompetence. My application is straightforward too 🤷🏻‍♀️and I honestly can’t understand what’s causing this delay? What worrying is seems like it’s only affecting applications predominantly submitted mid-February till beginning of March.

I agree, it looks like something mess-up happened around February-March with applications. I have emailed twice, but an automated message comes back saying that if I applied less than 6 months ago then they won't reply, bla bla bla. Their incompetence is horrendous, my stress level is through the roof by now. We are almost at the 6-months mark, so if nothing comes back then I will contact our local MP as well. Let's hope that way we would hear back, even if just 1 genuine line (and not a standard automated message), then at least we would know that they are working on it...

Ok, so I am not sure how to keep cam just now. I have emailed Further Nationality Enquiries two days ago to follow up on our applications. They said they couldn't provide information as we have applied less then 6 months ago (we applied on 4th March - which 5 months now and had biometric appointment on 31st March). I then replied back and asked when is the 6 months calculated from - is it from the online application (4th March) or the UKVCAS biometric app (31st March). I now received a response as follows:

"Dear xxxx,

Thank you for contacting the Further Nationality Enquiry email inbox.

The 6 month service standard start’s when the appliction is received by UKVI, you application’s were received on the 4th August.

Decisions on nationality applications are usually made within 6 months of submission, although some applications can take longer. You will be told if you need to provide more information to help with your application.

For further information on citizenship applications after they have been submitted, please visit:

www.gov.uk/apply-citizenship-spouse/after-youve-applied

We believe we have addressed all the points you have raised. If you have any further questions please contact us at: www.gov.uk/contact-ukvi-inside-outside-uk."

So they are saying that they only received our applications yesterday and the 6months will start from yesterday? I am soooo angry, I am literally in tears just now, this is so unfair! :(

Can someone help me out how and where I can raise a complaint? This is so unacceptable service, I knew that they were rubbish but this.... I am literally losing the plot just now... Please, help me out with suggestions. I need these things sorted because the primary school applications start from September and need our status cleared in order to get the applications sorted for my daughter. I am in total panic and really heartbroken, just cannot believe this....

Probably a date typo error trying to let you know you haven't reached the 6 months mark.

I am hoping you are right. At first, I thought the same but then I was like, yeah it is time to clarify so I replied them and asked if it was a typo. Because if it wasn't a typo then...I don't even know. So many people who applied later than us, got confirmations already, yet we are waiting and waiting. So they defo have a garbage work system, our application was simple and straightforward, no convictions, no debt, no bad points whatsoever, never been unemployed, no gaps in the last 8-9 years (since we are here in UK) really. If they really received our applications only yesterday, I really wonder where the hell were our applications so far? We applied online, so they can't even say that the post was mixed up. UKVCAS has sent our details through right on 31st March so how slow their system can be to take 5 months to reach them? We were prepared to wait for 6 months (until September) but surely weren't prepared for 11 months or whatever. Especially because so many later applicants got confirmed before us...

Typo, in all likelihood. Presumably you got an email acknowledging receipt of your application when you applied? The date of the application is the date it is received, simple as that. And, I'm surprised you got an email back from UKVI - they rarely ever respond to any queries from applicants and wouldn't normally give anyone an update on their application, unless 6 months have passed since the date of the application, and even then it doesn't seem to be happening much. In most cases, UKVI will only contact you if they need further info from you or to let you know a decision has been made. At least you know now your application is being processed. One way or the other, applications can not be just abandoned as there is no statutory authority for that. And, unfortunately there's no way to speed up the process, they'll make a decision whenever they're done with all the checks etc. And, there's no way of knowing when that'll be. Some applicants get their decision in less than 6 months, others and forum members have reported straightforward cases to have taken more that 6 month and over a year. From a legal point of view citizenship is a privilege, not a right, i.e. you can ask for it but they don't have to give it to you, hence we're given a process to use and told to basically shut up and wait. I'm not saying this is what you should do, merely stating my understanding of the whole thing.

In my opinion it’s a typo. My 6 months mark will be on the 25th of August (date of application was 25th of February) and I personally wouldn’t even bothered to inquire at this point as I know what the response would be like.
But if by some reason I wouldn’t hear back from them until then ,then I’ll bombard them with complaints!
But in your particular situation, I would definitely write them back to specify the date in their letter to you.
Hold tight ✊🏼.

thank you mrsdoc, your answer was really kind. I wasn't going to email them at first, but I saw in some posts that after the biometric appointment everyone gets an email from UKVCAS which confirms that their documents have been sent through to UKVI. However, I have not received that email at all. So it put me in panic mode and contacted UKVI since UKVCAS says on the website to not to contact UKVCAS after the appointment, that is why. All I wanted to find out from UKVI is that they have received everything, as I know they cant tell me anything else until the 6-month mark passed. When they replied, all they said that they cant confirm it until the 6-month mark. So I replied to UKVI and asked a simple question out of curiosity to find out when is the 6 months calculated from. That was it. So when they replied and said that they only received our documents from UKVCAS on 4th August, I first thought it was typo but the more I was re-reading I started to believe that it really is the date they got it. Which then put me in a bad state and cried etc. Sorry everyone, but 2020 and 2021 has been pretty bad so far, so this made me think that nothing works for me, my anxiety went through the roof (I am literally on therapy nowadays). So no, I am not impatient and some of the answers seem pretty rude saying I should just shut up and be happy as this is a privilege etc, especially if they do not know the full story. I really appreciate your answer and understanding.
#bekind because you do not know what others might be going through behind the scenes. We are here to help each other, and so far I had really nice experiences with the group, except some answers.

I hope you will hear back soon with a positive answer, wishing you best of luck :)

Everyone recieved an email that their documents were sent to UKVCAS after biometrics? What is the subject of that email? What is the content of that email?

I am searching my mailbox and i can't find such email and hoping it is a search problem....

After submitting biometrics I got an email with subject "Your supporting information has been submitted to UKVI"

This was from UKVCAS

I never got the email from Home Office that acknowledged my application, looks like it's just as inconsistent for everyone here. Great procedures :)

Thanks wootme. I never received such email.

@ everyone - is that common for applicants other than mid-feb/march 2021?

I didn’t receive such an email, trust it is just anoter typical example of their incosistency. Unfortunately really nothing much we can do other than just wait, 6.5 months for me now and I just sent another email to follow up…

Joining all February applicants. Applied 08/02, bio 11/02 and heard nothing since. No decision or invitation. I tried to call council, they said they received the certificate on 15/07 via email??(i thought they are being send by post?) but radio silence from HO. Emailed them maybe 4 times on all different emails, called them - they only said that they cannot check and I need to email them. It is 6 months for me today. I think on Monday I’ll call council again and ask them If I can proceed with ceremony without invitation letter(I saw that some councils allow it) and will very likely contact my MP.
