They seem to be processing applications quicker now compared to January - April/May. Some forum members (August/September applications) have reported getting a decision in 4-5 weeks. You will have a 16 digit UAN which means you'll get your decision via email rather than through the post. Watch out for an email from Home Office Atlas, normally goes straight into your junk/spam folder. Some members have also reported getting the ceremony invitation email from their council prior to getting a decision from UKVI/HO, happened to me as well - got my decision email nearly 4 weeks after my ceremony invitation email from the council.
Thanks - just a quick note: i wrote 4 weeks, but its almost 4 month... :)

I will wait and see... no other choice anyway, right :)

With that said, I dont see a 16 digit number anywhere. Are you saying it must exist due to the invite?
The number is generated by the HO system when you apply and will be in your acknowledgement email if you've received one and in the pdf copy of your application.

Thanks. I got the 16 digit code if its the code with 4 x 4 numbers.... got it when i logged into the webpage again. I dont have a pdf file or something... :(

The UKVI webpage tells me that I have 2 outstanding actions, which i both completed. Book the appointment for biometrics which I completed on June 19th and the Referee References have been provided with the application directly.

I think I am starting to overthink this :D
If you return to your application / sign into your UKVI account and scroll down, under optional actions you'll see 'download a copy of your application form', that'll be a pdf copy of your application. On there you'll have your Unique Application Number (UAN), you've applied in June so it'll look like this 1234-1234-1234-1234. A 16 digit UAN number basically means you'll get your HO decision via email. Prior to May this year UAN's were 8 digits, I think, old HO system which used to first generate an approval letter and then separately a ceremony invitation letter that you'd get through the post. HO now uses a new system where people get their decisions via email which comes from Home Office Atlas, the email is both your approval and ceremony invitation.
If the system was changed, this would likely be before I applied - 28th of April. I have a 16 digit UAN and a /00 at the end of it. No decision yet in what is supposed to be a very very straightforward application. Wife and 2 kids are British, never overstayed or with any adverse history in my 10+ years in the country.
That makes it over 5 months now rather than 4. In any case, there's a backlog of applications going back to beginning of this year, apparently due to COVID and we've seen some August applications decided whilst March-July ones, in many cases, are still waiting for their decision. Having said that, you've received your UKVI survey email which would suggest a decision has been made and you should get it in the next few weeks.

The approval letter just came in the post, dated 30th of Sept. Didn't receive any email

Thanks. Think someone else jumped on this thread and hence you see 5 instead of 4 month. I applied mid June, so 4 month and received the survey last week.
As you mentioned, this 'in theory' would indicate a decision is about to be made shortly... without a timeframe obviously.

I keep my fingers and everything else crossed :)

Let us know when you get your decision - interested to see how long it'll take them to generate your decision email and send it across. I got my survey email first, the following day my council's emailed to confirm ceremony and nearly 4 weeks later got my HO decision email.

Got excited and nervous this morning since I had an email in my inbox from UKVI Home Office.... to tell me I can prove my Settlement status... If I have been granted British Citizenship in the meantime, its not valid for me... i am sure lots of others must have received that email?!

Anyway, back to waiting, but good news is the email stayed in my inbox.

i had a 16 digit UAN and applied in May, 2021. did not receive any email notification about the approval. so this theory is debunked that if you have a 16 digit application no. you get email about the outcome of the application.

they posted a letter to me asking to book a ceremony.

So.... I now emailed the UKVI after I read the other thread in this forum regarding the survey. Its 4 month since i applied and tried to 'play stupid'.

Dont think I have anything to lose, have I?

Sorry but this isn't a theory but info coming from at least several councils. HO migrated from the old 8 UAN system that used to generate two separate letters sent out in the post, one for approval and another for ceremony, to a the 16 digit UAN which generates only one email that's both approval and ceremony invite. System migration took place over several months during which some 16 digit UAN applicants received what the old system generated. All applications now get emails only.

Sorry but if you keep an eye on the timelines thread you'll find that plenty of people from April, May and later are still getting letters on the post days after they were printed. Some are not even getting approval notifications and go straight into post letter from the council with the ceremony invitation. We have had confirmation that there's been a system change and that applications have either 8 or 16 digit reference numbers based on the system they're being processed in (which seems to be random still) but the notifications are still coming on both channels even for recent applications. It just seems like, not surprising, they have no consistency or discernible patterns for how they process applications.

Any body received ukvi servey Email before decision which I believe you receive when application is decided. I received Servey email 10 days ago and still no response from home office.

UK Visas and Immigration would like to ask for your feedback in a short online survey. The aim of this survey is to find out how well we met your needs and how we can improve in the future.

You can complete the survey in any of these languages:

English
العربية
中文
Pусский
Türk

Please click here to provide your feedback: Take the Survey

The questionnaire should take around 10 minutes to complete. It should be completed by the applicant themselves or a parent or guardian who applied on their behalf. If you are not the applicant, their parent or guardian, please send this invitation to the applicant.

Your feedback will be completely anonymous; it cannot and will not be linked with your application in any way.

The success of this research depends entirely on your voluntary co-operation, and we do hope you will be able to take part.

Thank you for your time.

Kind regards,

Deborah Chittenden

Look up earlier in exactly this thread. And there is another thread in the 'British Citizenship' forum here.

I have received the survey about 2 weeks ago.... but nbd decision. And similar to the other thread I emailed UKVI and asked for clarification on Thursday. Haven't heard back and technically its only been 4 month since I submitted my biometrics (actually tomorrow 4 months ago).

10 days after my email and no response. Granted, my application is only 4 month and 6 days old, but would have thought someone to tell me that I am way too early...

I've emailed HO last month asking for a copy of my ceremony invite, and spoke to their call centre. Their standard is to respond within 20 working days, I was told. They got back to me on the 24th working day, nearly 5 weeks after I emailed them.

Re: General discussion on naturalization applications

I've been waiting over 4 months since application and it's been interesting checking this forum from time to time.

I've noticed that there are quiet periods where people don't report approvals and then all of a sudden we get a wave of people getting approvals over the same weekend. I've trained myself to expect news between Saturday-Monday and forget about it the rest of the time.

I was wondering about the average wait time for 2021 so I scanned the timelines thread and have worked out the average wait time of applications submitted this year to be 131 days. The longest someone reported waiting was 221 days and the shortest was 18 days.

I know it's hard but all we can do is apply and try to forget about it, there's no clarity at all about the process and, from the data reported here, there's no way to find a pattern.

Best of luck to all!
