How to cancel application?

Could someone please advise how an application made online can be withdrawn?

You could cancel here: https://www.gov.uk/cancel-visa
However, what is the issue? Have you loaded documents?
If not you could upload a covering note with additional info or corrections.

I'm asking for a family member.
He applied 6 months ago and wants to withdraw because the likelihood of an approval is low now as it seems most people got approvals within 3 months.

I don't know where that thinking comes from .... first he'll loose the full fee ... second the processing target specified by UKVI is six months! Some applicants get approved in three months, some in six months, some in excess of six months. So he should keep waiting. He could send an email to these UKVI email addresses to inqure: british-citizenship/nationality-enquire ... l#p2093594
