Application received date: 27/3/15

I made an application for naturalisation in March 2015 as the spouse of a British citizen. I have lived in the UK since Nov 2011 and have not left the country since my arrival. I obtained ILR in February 2014. I have now received a letter from HO dated 6/10/15 requesting further documentation;

Passports (s) or Travel document (s) to cover the period from 18/3/12 to 20/7/12, in order to meet the residence requirements for naturalisation.

I am confused by this as I had already sent them my passport which was valid for travel for this period, and which shows i have not left the country since my arrival. I don't have any other passports. I have already emailed them to clarify their request.

What could be the issue? I did not send my Residence Permit Card with the application, could this be the problem? is it essential that is sent with the application?

The ILR permit stays with you when you apply through NCS. Even after you have naturalised and got your passport. It just becomes irrelevant afterwards.

It might have been a mistake that they sent you the letter. If you have sent them your original passport which cover the last three years then just enquire if they have received it. If only copies were taken (NCS applicants only) then that means that they want to see the original passport; which they already must have got according to your statement. Better call them first thing in the morning to clarify this issue as you are past your six months.

Good Luck

I applied on the 27th of March, my documents were acknowledged on the 7th of April. They wanted more, so I sent over a kilo of documentation which they received on the 1st of June. Since then...crickets.

I'm a German citizen, have lived continuously in the UK for 13 years, have paid National Insurance for 10 years while continually employed and self-employed and have been married to a British citizen for 6 years (happy anniversary to us in a week!).

Should I be worrying?

They're really slow, so I wouldn't be worried, especially since you sent more documents. You should call and ask if they have any more info however, as it's been more than 6 months from your application...

I think the more documents you send the more time it would take to verify each and very single document,
its a lot of papers
just have to wait

Thanks for your comments, tyx and blackstreak. I just sent them what they asked for!

In the meantime I've written an email to the Home Office (for all that good that might do...) and to my MP (may do more good), and I'll see if I can get anyone on the phone tomorrow.

Thank you for the kind words!

I applied a few days after you and I'm still waiting. After 2 months they requested more information about my work, which I sent. Then nothing since the 1st of June.

I called and was told that my application was neither approved or denied, but the person couldn't tell me any more.

Next step I'm taking is sending a registered letter to the person who requested the additional information.

Some applications are getting approved within 3 months. I have no idea how they operate, but good luck getting through.

A sort of update...

On Friday the 16th I called UKVI and was actually called back! Shock. However the gentleman who called was only able to tell me that my application was neither accepted or denied and that he was unable to attach a comment to the file for the hard-working person who has had it on their desk since the end of March. I asked if there was any additional information I could supply, but he told me no.

On Monday I sent a registered letter of inquiry to the name on the only piece of communication I've had from them, as well as an email. The letter was received today.

And I wrote to my MP as well. Today I received an email from his office that he has contacted UKVI to find out what's happening.

As I have lived continuously in the UK for 13 years, have paid over 10 years in National Insurance and have been married to a British citizen for 6 years, I find it hard to believe that they need this much time to decide without informing me about what their issue is.

Today I browsed through the March thread on this board and was utterly shocked to see that some people who applied in early March had received their positive decision within three weeks! I told this to the woman at UKVI I spoke with today and she assured me that that was impossible and that everyone's application takes 6 months. Incompetent and liars...

I'll post again when something happens so that if anyone else is getting the runaround they can benefit from my knowledge.

Well, your experience seems similar to mine and I, too, have been self-employed, as well as employed by others and have been a student.

My MP is contacting them, and I have called and sent them a registered letter.

This puts a whole different spin on why this has been taking so long.
