I just submitted my application today through Islington council NCS and the interviewer told me something that I think might be why Oct cases have been so delayed - apparently there was a very sharp increase in applications in October (he said 39,000 just that month) to get in ahead of the new language requirement, so there's a massive backlog. He said not to expect them to even look at my application before the new year as they have so many to get through.

Eligibility criteria: 3 years spouse of British citizen
Language criteria met: Exempt country (USA)
Current nationality: US American
Method of application: NCS Islington
Date of application: 5 December 2013
Date of receipt by UKBA:
Date of acknowlegment:
Date of debit or clearance of fees:
Date approval received:
Date of ceremony:

Even based upon what we know from these forums October applications seem to have been on a scale of approx 3:1 compared to September and possibly as much as 7:1 compared to November.

Question

Post by APK » Thu Dec 05, 2013 5:47 pm

Dear people who applied for British naturalization. Maybe you can give me some advice. I applied for naturalization on the 17th of October, and my fees were debited on the 15th of November already. I got a letter couple days ago from HO. They request from me P60's forms. I lost it and I provided to HO instead of my P60's Employment history and National insurance contribution forms what should be enough. At least I checked in this forum and some people did the same. Do you know I am in trouble or it should be fine? Thank you very much for your advice.

APK, could you please open a separate new topic for this and we'll help you there. This topic is supposed to be for timelines only.

Hi Simha,

There is a November and a December section, it would be a better idea to post there, you may even find people there with similar dates as yours, good luck.

I submitted my application over 5 weeks ago and still no debit of fees. I am away from UK for 4 weeks over the xmas / January period. I wonder what happens if HO start processing my application, and they need to get hold of me for additional information while I am away. If I don't respond within 2 weeks, does this mean that my application is automatically rejected?? :? :? :? :? :?

Thanks. I am just worried that my application will start getting processed while I am away from xmas until mid Jan, and if the HO has a follow up query that I can't respond to within 2 weeks, this would lead to automatic rejection :(

There have been a handful: BGOGOI, rangeel, vivdubes, KKJ-UK, Kibria, kris79 and nora_k have posted their approval. Not many yet though.

Hi Guys,

Just to mention what happened to my application which I hope will help some people.
I applied on 12/10/13. 5 or 6 weeks passed and there was no debit of fees from my account. Understandably I got worried and emailed UKBA. The first response was a very standard I guess 'Having checked our records there is no decision yet on your case'. My question however was have they actually received my application or not. To which they replied asking further details like DOB, ref number and so on. I sent another email with the info that they requested. Received the email from UKBA the same day saying that they have indeed received my application but they could not withdraw any money (this is despite having enough money on the account and bank telling me that there was no attempt to withdraw money). I could not be bothered arguing and asked if there was any other means of paying rather than relying on payment slip. I was told telephone payment is ok to which I happily agreed straight away. A lady called me the same day (all of these happened within the same day) and money was deducted from my account.
Take home message:
1. if it has been a while and no fees deducted - send an email to UKBA asking if there was an attempt to withdraw money
2. If yes but failed attempt - ask UKBA to pay by phone

P.S. still waiting for a decision :)
