I found her post important because we are both Nigerian and we both applied from here...I just completed my biometrics last week and I'm waiting for my fate...are postal systems here is the worst and I didn't make anything special arrangements for my documents to be sent Back so I'm guessing it would be second class post...I wanted to ask her if there is anything hope it would get here or if there is anything way I can ammend the applications so they send it via courier or priority post

HO conveniently mailed me only one day after I returned from holiday, providing a ceremony date two days from now. So finally getting that done!
Ceremony was done yesterday. I am now officially a certified British subject. Happy days! Now just to get the passport.
Congratulations. Good luck with the passport.

My son is still waiting for a ceremony date, since 5th November.
Thank you! The waiting is the worst, isn't it?

You've still got about two weeks to go before the 12 week cutoff. After that, if you still haven't gotten one, you can mail them on citizenship.support@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk.

The person handling my case did say that they have been severely backlogged and that they are implementing procedures to get things moving faster.
Still waiting for ceremony date. Sent emails to HO and SA British Consulate.

Certificate was sent via diplomatic bag to SA on December 4tth.

Called Consulate 4 times. Spoke to various people, who were going to call me back. (Never did).

Finally got through to ceremony planner who says they have 800 applications to arrange.

6 months this week. Painstakingly waiting for government officials to finalise this.

Will be very glad when this is over and dont have to have anything to do with them again.

Applied from USA. The whole process has been VERY quick and easy for me, and now all I'm waiting on is the invitation to the ceremony.

Application arrival: 18 September 2018
Fee taken from account: 24 September 2018
Application receipt acknowledgement: 25 September 2018
Invitation to complete biometrics: 25 September 2018
Biometrics appointment: 15 October 2018 (likely could have been seen much earlier, but this was my first available date and they gave me the date I asked for)
Letter of successful application dated: 6 November 2018
Final Updates:
Invitation to ceremony: 22 January 2019
Date of ceremony: 23 January 2019
Passport Application Posted: 4 February 2019
(Got an email saying I left out the referee's passport photocopy on 22 February, sent that on 27 February and the next day saw that my status had been updated to "dispatched")
Passport (and supporting documents) received: 5 March 2019

Just posted off my application to register my children under Section 3(1) yesterday, so will be jumping over to that topic now!

Just wanted to post my final timeline after having received my passport today :) Ignore the delay between the ceremony and the passport application. I only had a chance to apply for the passport in the new year and had no immediate plans to travel. Just wanted to say thanks to this forum. A lot of good people on here, providing valuable help and information :) Good luck to all those still waiting to hear from the HO.

Online application from Port Elizabeth, South Africa
5 August 2018 : Date applied
6 August 2018 : Automated acknowledgement received with case number
3 October 2018 : Biometrics invite received via email
10 October 2018 : Biometrics submitted at TLSContact office in Port Elizabeth
13 November 2018 : Approval email received from case worker - original approval date 24 October 2018

3 December 2018 : Ceremony invite received from consulate in Cape Town
14 December 2018: : Ceremony completed

14 January 2019 : Applied for passport online
21 January 2019 : Sent supporting documents to Durham HMPO via DHL
24 January 2019 : Docs received by HMPO
6 February 2019 : Email from HMPO requesting signed declaration for passport to be delivered to my work address (reply sent back same day)

7 February 2019 : Marked "Dispatched" on tracking service
13 February 2019 : Passport received via DHL
Hi Pleasant

Can you please explain something to me about your online passport application?

Did you have to have your passport photos countersigned? On the online application, there is no mention of a countersignature. Did you attach this seperately?

Thank you

"The waiting drove me mad"
Still waiting, I got my dates wrong, we got the letter 5th December, dated 30 November. Meh.
Will wait another week and send an email.
Hope your passport application has gone smoothly?
So far, yes. Thankfully there is not a lot to be done. You just send them your certificate and a few extra docs which you would have had for the initial citizenship application. All trackable online. Now just waiting for it to be sent back.

My passport application went out just under two weeks ago. It has just been dispatched (last I checked they were still making a decision!) with DHL courier and I will have it next week.

Various emails and phone calls later (even a letter to my MP)

Hi Licky,

I'm just seeing your post, sorry for the rather late reply.

After waiting for 3 months (citizenship ceremony was in June 2018), I wrote to them asking for my documents to be sent to my relative in the UK. They sent it to them after 2 days, made a post about it herebritish-citizenship/new-citizenship-for ... 2-860.html. Check the second or third post.

For passport applications, they will send your documents and passport via DHL, no need to worry about our postal system for that one

Just an update that should reassure any applicants that they have not forgotten about you.
My daughter applied 1st November 2018. More details on post 9.2.19 page 51.
Documents returned 14th March together with confirmation that a letter would be received "shortly" inviting her to attend a citizenship ceremony.
Well their definition of shortly is not the same as mine since no further
communication has been received. The letter states if no communication has been received within 12 weeks she should email them. An absolute disgrace.
Six months has now past and she is still not there.
It is in my opinion it is unbelievable the time that has taken to process my daughter's application.

12-March-2019 My lawyer who handled my application contacted the HM seeking an update on the invitation for citizenship ceremony, this was necessitated by imminent changes resulting from Brexit.

24-March-2019 HM responded, claiming that the necessary paperworks has been sent to British consulate in Amsterdam. I contacted BC-amsterdam demanding an update on my situation.

29-March-2019 BC-amsterdam responded by proposing April 2nd and 9th as possible dates for the citizenship ceremony.

9-April-2019. Today I'm officially a British citizen (British-Nigerian). The oath of allegiance was administered by the consul-general and the passport application process was explained to me. He told me the application spans typically for 6-weeks but he's aware of someone who got it done in about 10 working days. I was advised to apply without further delay. The application process is ongoing.

On a final note, how are you all coping with the Brexit uncertainty ? Lastnight I flew into Schipol and the immigration officer jokingly said "you were born in the U.K. and you don't have a British passport ". I told him I will be a Brit by tomorrow. Then he said " That's great, then you are free to enter Netherlands-EU with your British passport and without using your dutch resident-permit for about a month. Then it dawn on me, the ills of Brexit :(
