Ceremony was done yesterday. I am now officially a certified British subject. Happy days! Now just to get the passport.
Congratulations. Good luck with the passport.

My son is still waiting for a ceremony date, since 5th November.
Thank you! The waiting is the worst, isn't it?

You've still got about two weeks to go before the 12 week cutoff. After that, if you still haven't gotten one, you can mail them on citizenship.support@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk.

The person handling my case did say that they have been severely backlogged and that they are implementing procedures to get things moving faster.
"The waiting drove me mad"
Still waiting, I got my dates wrong, we got the letter 5th December, dated 30 November. Meh.
Will wait another week and send an email.
Hope your passport application has gone smoothly?
So far, yes. Thankfully there is not a lot to be done. You just send them your certificate and a few extra docs which you would have had for the initial citizenship application. All trackable online. Now just waiting for it to be sent back.

I'm still waiting for the ceremony invite and the waiting is killing especially with the approaching brexit deadline, and possible no-deal scenario.

Hi Licky,

I'm just seeing your post, sorry for the rather late reply.

After waiting for 3 months (citizenship ceremony was in June 2018), I wrote to them asking for my documents to be sent to my relative in the UK. They sent it to them after 2 days, made a post about it herebritish-citizenship/new-citizenship-for ... 2-860.html. Check the second or third post.

For passport applications, they will send your documents and passport via DHL, no need to worry about our postal system for that one

Just an update that should reassure any applicants that they have not forgotten about you.
My daughter applied 1st November 2018. More details on post 9.2.19 page 51.
Documents returned 14th March together with confirmation that a letter would be received "shortly" inviting her to attend a citizenship ceremony.
Well their definition of shortly is not the same as mine since no further
communication has been received. The letter states if no communication has been received within 12 weeks she should email them. An absolute disgrace.
Six months has now past and she is still not there.
It is in my opinion it is unbelievable the time that has taken to process my daughter's application.

11-Feb-2019 Got a letter from the Home office that my application is successful

12-March-2019 My lawyer who handled my application contacted the HM seeking an update on the invitation for citizenship ceremony, this was necessitated by imminent changes resulting from Brexit.

24-March-2019 HM responded, claiming that the necessary paperworks has been sent to British consulate in Amsterdam. I contacted BC-amsterdam demanding an update on my situation.

29-March-2019 BC-amsterdam responded by proposing April 2nd and 9th as possible dates for the citizenship ceremony.

9-April-2019. Today I'm officially a British citizen (British-Nigerian). The oath of allegiance was administered by the consul-general and the passport application process was explained to me. He told me the application spans typically for 6-weeks but he's aware of someone who got it done in about 10 working days. I was advised to apply without further delay. The application process is ongoing.

On a final note, how are you all coping with the Brexit uncertainty ? Lastnight I flew into Schipol and the immigration officer jokingly said "you were born in the U.K. and you don't have a British passport ". I told him I will be a Brit by tomorrow. Then he said " That's great, then you are free to enter Netherlands-EU with your British passport and without using your dutch resident-permit for about a month. Then it dawn on me, the ills of Brexit :(

The certificate is NOT a travel document. He needs a British passport.

My response clearly said a British passport.

Nigerians are visa nationals. The naturalisation certificate is only a piece of paper. The airlines won't allow him to board if he cannot show a visa or a British passport.

As a British citizen, he cannot apply for a visa. So his only options are a British passport or a Certificate of Entitlement to Right of Abode, the latter costing almost £500 and can take a few months.

I also asked the consul general a similar question about the possibility of getting an Emergency travel certificate and he advised me right-away to wait for my passport, which I did. The whole passport application process took about 3-4 weeks barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Update.
My daughter attended her Citizenship ceremony this morning in Munich.
204 days since her initial application was acknowledged.
Delighted as we are, the time taken to complete this request is a disgrace.
Theresa should maybe take some of her inapt colleagues from the Home Office with her.
