12-March-2019 My lawyer who handled my application contacted the HM seeking an update on the invitation for citizenship ceremony, this was necessitated by imminent changes resulting from Brexit.

24-March-2019 HM responded, claiming that the necessary paperworks has been sent to British consulate in Amsterdam. I contacted BC-amsterdam demanding an update on my situation.

29-March-2019 BC-amsterdam responded by proposing April 2nd and 9th as possible dates for the citizenship ceremony.

9-April-2019. Today I'm officially a British citizen (British-Nigerian). The oath of allegiance was administered by the consul-general and the passport application process was explained to me. He told me the application spans typically for 6-weeks but he's aware of someone who got it done in about 10 working days. I was advised to apply without further delay. The application process is ongoing.

On a final note, how are you all coping with the Brexit uncertainty ? Lastnight I flew into Schipol and the immigration officer jokingly said "you were born in the U.K. and you don't have a British passport ". I told him I will be a Brit by tomorrow. Then he said " That's great, then you are free to enter Netherlands-EU with your British passport and without using your dutch resident-permit for about a month. Then it dawn on me, the ills of Brexit :(

My brother is Nigerian and just going to attend his ceremony on Tuesday my question to you is do you know if he can travel to the UK using his current Nigerian passport and his citizenship certificate or will he be required to apply for a British passport as well
Many thanks

The certificate is NOT a travel document. He needs a British passport.

Hiya
Thank you for the reply, but does he need a British passport if he already has a Nigerian one?

Thanks in advance

My response clearly said a British passport.

Nigerians are visa nationals. The naturalisation certificate is only a piece of paper. The airlines won't allow him to board if he cannot show a visa or a British passport.

As a British citizen, he cannot apply for a visa. So his only options are a British passport or a Certificate of Entitlement to Right of Abode, the latter costing almost £500 and can take a few months.

I also asked the consul general a similar question about the possibility of getting an Emergency travel certificate and he advised me right-away to wait for my passport, which I did. The whole passport application process took about 3-4 weeks barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Just an update that should reassure any applicants that they have not forgotten about you.
My daughter applied 1st November 2018. More details on post 9.2.19 page 51.
Documents returned 14th March together with confirmation that a letter would be received "shortly" inviting her to attend a citizenship ceremony.
Well their definition of shortly is not the same as mine since no further
communication has been received. The letter states if no communication has been received within 12 weeks she should email them. An absolute disgrace.
Six months has now past and she is still not there.
It is in my opinion it is unbelievable the time that has taken to process my daughter's application.
Update.
My daughter attended her Citizenship ceremony this morning in Munich.
204 days since her initial application was acknowledged.
Delighted as we are, the time taken to complete this request is a disgrace.
Theresa should maybe take some of her inapt colleagues from the Home Office with her.

The documents and the approved letter was brought to my house by two officers from the Nipost . i received the document on the 28th of may but the approved citizenship letter was dated since the 7th of May . Now am waiting for the citizenship ceremony which i'm wondering how long it will take . How long did it take for you to receive the invitation letter for the ceremonial oath and after the letter how long was it before you attended the ceremony .I will want to change the location for the ceremony from Lagos to Abuja , still wondering how to go about that . Please what documents did you send when you were applying for your British passport and can it be done here in Nigeria or you need to send it to the UK and how long did it take for the passport to be approved .

well,i got a call for the ceremony 2days after i received the approval letter which was dated a month earlier i think. all you need for the passport application is your registration certificate, non british passport, prove of address within the last 12 months and a form of ID that has your photo on. All these can be seen in the guidance with the form.
As for waiting for your ceremony, nothing is consistent. they will contact you when they have a slot for you. My friend has done her ceremony 2weeks ago yet no approval letter or returned documents yet so its different from the way yours went

Only her majesty passport office can issue a passport,so you have to send it to the passport office in the UK like you did the UKF form only it will be to HMPO not the home office..the consular will explain to you on your ceremony day.
it took like forever cos they needed additional documents. around 4-5 months I suppose.
I had an identity interview at the embassy

Hello,

I am new here and wanted to ask, if ok, how long it normally is to receive a responds to an UKF application. I completed one for my daughter (age 13) beginning Jan19 online. I have not heard anything at all and starting to wonder what the average duration is to receive a reply? Thank you.

Update
14-Jan-2019 UKF application was sent through my lawyer to the Home-office

21-jan-2019 I was mandated by the Home-office to do my biometrics

29-Jan-2019 Biometrics was successfuly done at UK visa center in Amsterdam

11-Feb-2019 Got a letter from the Home office that my application is successful

My brother is Nigerian and just going to attend his ceremony on Tuesday my question to you is do you know if he can travel to the UK using his current Nigerian passport and his citizenship certificate or will he be required to apply for a British passport as well
Many thanks

Hi everyone, I got my British nationality act 1981 certificate of registration via UKF back in 2016 when it came out. Trying to find out if this certificate classes me of British from birth ? Or is it from the date it it issued ? This information is important as if this classes it as from birth. Things are less complicated for my children knowing I was British from birth because of the certificate. Any info would help. Thanks
