I’m sure, due to the kind of document, they will use couriers. At least, I hope so. Because the certificate can’t be issued twice and so if it gets lost in the mail, it will be a problem.
The user is not asking about the certificate (which can be reissued by the way), they are asking about the approval/invitation letter.

Certificate is handed out at the ceremony.
So out of curiosity, I called to find out about the reissuance of citizenship certificates and I was told that it is not possible. It is issued only once. So when it’s lost, that’s it. Wasn’t misinformed after all. Goodluck
Can be replaced according to this
Yes thank you! I guess I will just rely on information given on the gov.uk website from now on.

Wow! You’re right because they told me that it is impossible. Well I’m glad it can be replaced then as anything of course can happen and it is an important document. Thank you for this information. It’s quite disappointing that you could be mislead or misinformed by people who are actually working at the HO. But anyway, thanks for the info
As I said, the call centre is outsourced, likely poorly trained to only level 1 OISC and not HO staff directly.

Hi Guys
I am new to this forum and am crying out for assistance.
My brother in law (shares the same father as my wife who is british) has applied for British citizenship via the UKF Form.
We have done bio metrics sent in fathers birth certificate along with sibling DNA results from a government approved DNA centre.
We have now waited 8 months with now decision.
We have esculated twice to be given a generic "it's not done yet" answer and have also gone to our MP who has written in (pending reply).
Can anyone advise the time scale on this application?
Where can we go to either speed up the decision or get a more in depth status report?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • Application received/signed for at UKBA: ~4 July 2018
  • Ceremony fee deducted: 18 July 2018
  • Acknowledgement email received (with case number): 19 July 2018
  • 28 July 2018 - Received biometrics letter
  • 28 July 2018 - mailed TLSContact for appointment (as instructed in letter). No response.

  • 17 August biometrics appointment scheduled (finally!)
  • 20 August biometrics submitted

So frigging happy right now!

Do I need to wait for citizenship ceremony before I can start applying for my passport?

Congratulations to you as well. Yours was extremely fast too! :)
Cheers! I wasn't expecting it back this soon, especially with no warning it was coming. Went to check the post and got a package with all my documents and the letter of success. I'm desperately curious about how long until I'll be invited to the ceremony as I've only heard from one other person who registered in the US and she said her ceremony was basically the same day she got her invitation, but she was also one of the first people to register under UKF so I think there weren't as many people applying.
Well in the letter of succes, it says that it can take up to 3 months. So out of curiosity, I called the home office today and they told me that I could contact them if I don't receive an invitation from the embassy after 21 days.
This is interesting. My approval letter was dated 24 October.. since its been more than 21 days, I contacted British Embassy and they just said "we haven't received your registration certificate yet".. so would be interested to know how to contact them because the approval letter also said contact us in 3 months if you haven't received an invitation from the embassy. Lol so which one is it? :P

They included an email to contact in my letter, and I sent them a message over a week ago since we're coming up on the holidays and I'm trying to sort out whether it's OK for me to travel or if I should just plan to stay close to home for the next few weeks, but no one has ever written me back. I checked online on how to contact UKVI about citizenship enquiries and it led me to a site which gave me the option to either call or email for a fee (!!!!): https://www.gov.uk/contact-ukvi-inside-outside-uk

I also emailed them. Similar situation. The invite arrived via email with no word from them still. I used the paid email option when I was waiting for my biometrics and they were useless. The paid option only works if one is applying within the uk.

Yeah as Mercuree mentioned, don't bother paying for an email - its a waste of money and time. I think they are outsourced by the Home Office so information they give isn't always accurate.

TLS do sometimes take up to two weeks to respond. Wouldn't panic just yet. Btw, they don't acknowledge the appointment request

Hi people I'm so happy as my sons UKF application has been a success and his certificate arrived today in record time. We applied from the UK and our timeline is as follows.

6.11.18 application sent special delivery
7.11.18 signed for by UKVI
23.11.18 confirmation email received
24.11.18 biometric enrollment letter arrived
dated 21.11.18
27.11.18 biometric enrollment done
12.12.18 certificate of citizenship arrived

None of my original documents have been returned to me though and we received no confirmation email that the application was a success.
Thanks to all who commented and helped on my original post requesting help and good luck to all those still waiting.

So I have come to the end of my UKF journey (excluding passport application). Here is the final timeline.

5 August 2018: Applied online
6 August 2018: Documents sent to Liverpool via DHL
3 October 2018: Email received to submit biometric details
10 October 2018: Biometrics submitted at TLSContact office
13 November 2018: Approval email received from case worker - original approval date 24 October 2018
3 December 2018: Ceremony invite
14 December 2018: Ceremony completed and registration certificate received

Only real advice I can give is just be patient. It takes time but eventually comes through - in fact it when a lot quicker than what i thought it would. However, I am still waiting for my original documents to be sent back - they are currently stuck in the South African postal system. I will only apply for my British passport then as I have no immediate plans to travel. Good luck to all those who are still in the various stages of the application pipeline and to those looking to apply. :)

Quick question, did you receive your invite to the ceremony by email?

Thank you

14 December 2018: Ceremony completed and registration certificate received

Only real advice I can give is just be patient. It takes time but eventually comes through - in fact it when a lot quicker than what i thought it would. However, I am still waiting for my original documents to be sent back - they are currently stuck in the South African postal system. I will only apply for my British passport then as I have no immediate plans to travel. Good luck to all those who are still in the various stages of the application pipeline and to those looking to apply. :)
Congratulations Pleasant

Quick question, did you receive your invite to the ceremony by email?

Thank you
Thanks :) I did. From the British Consulate in Cape Town, South Africa.

It was good. Was about 1 hour 30 minutes. They served tea and coffee with scones afterwards. Nice British touch. They also gave advice regarding passport applications. Yeah they were about 20 odd people doing the ceremony as well. At which point you receive the registration certificate.

Hi all! I just wanted to tell you that today I've finally become a British Citizen.

It took a little bit more than three months (I enrolled my biometrics on August 30). I didn't receive any invitation letter but just a phone call from the embassy informing me that the certificate was ready. Then i exchanged a couple of emails with the vice-consul to arrange the date, since they gave me the possibility to attend the cerimony at the consulate rather than the embassy. It went all really smooth.

I'd like to thank all of you once again for all the precious advice!

Good luck with your applications!

A very happy update about my UKF application. A package arrived via USPS containing my documents, passport and a letter indicating that my application was a success and that I would be contacted by letter to schedule my citizenship ceremony.

September 4 - Submitted application online
September 5 - Received acknowledgement email with case number in my spam folder
September 5 - Sent documents from USA
September 10 - Documents received in Liverpool
October 30 - Received email inviting me to enroll biometrics
November 16 - Completed biometrics
December 19 - Received success letter with all my documents and passport
