In previous months, it seemed like it was about a week or so before they took out the fees and sent the acknowledgement letter. This month, it appears to be taking a bit longer. Hope it doesn't mean that overall Oct applications will be slower!

You are completely right. I sent mine on 15th. They received it on 16th which is confirmed by Royal Mail. The fee was not taken and it is already 12 days. Not to mention the acknowledgment letter...I am going abroad in 2 days and I hope the fee will be taken and the letter will be there by the time I am back

Hallo all, seems like the right thread for me, recently applied, for the sake of the group, and the sanity of others here is my timeline, will update as I receive more information.

Eligibility criteria Joint application, both applicants on ILR
Language criteria met UK Qualification achieved (BTEC level 7)
Current nationality South African
Method of application Direct (UKBA Liverpool)
Council name if NCS used n/a
Date of application 07/10/14
Payment method CC/DC, Personal cheque, Bankers cheque etc Debit Card
Date of receipt by UKBA 08/10/14
Date of acknowledgment 18/10/14
Date of debit or clearance of fees 17/10/14
Date approval received waiting
Date of ceremony waiting

One thing, our application is for a married couple (both South African) who both had our own separate work permits and ILR periods exceeding 12 months. We applied with form AN (as you do) and specified that it was a joint application, each with their own application form. One fee of £906 and two fees of £80 (the AN payment form is quite confusing and does not provide enough details for applications that are joint) in any case, the £1066 was taken from my card shortly after sending in but then we got a letter acknowledging and also asking for another £746. I have now sent this additional payment. Although, I am not quite sure this is correct as we have applied as a joint, therefore, it should only attract the one fee of £906. But, all things being equal I don't want to argue the toss with UKBA now, all I want is our new shiny passports. Does anyone know about the fees for joint applications. Is the latter only possible when one applicant is dependent on the other? In our case as mentioned, both on independent ILR but we thought we would jointly apply for naturalisation, does not seem to have worked. Expecting the additional payment to go off our accounts this week and hopefully it will not take to long to filter through now. Anyway, hope my comments help someone else out there. Good luck guys

There is no joint fee any more, not sure where you got the £80 from though. So for 2 applications you page 2x£906.
Good to know they don't just return your application if you give the wrong payment.

@antpants76 - Unfortunately there is no 'joint application' system for naturalisation.. Each application is processed seperately irrespective of whether you are applying for self (or) self+partner (or) entire family. Thus you have to pay £906 for each application submitted (or rather £906+£80+£80+£746 = £1812 for two applications in your case).

It might have saved you some time, if applied through NCS service, as they would have guided you properly with your application process and fees.. However no harm done, as you have now paid the difference amount.

Hope this helps!!

Finally an update on my application after 2 weeks of anxious wait as i did not know whether my app was lost by Royal mail or received by HO as RM website did not give update about delivery and even my council thought the app was lost.
I haven't got an acknowledgement letter/email yet but money has been taken from my cc on 27/10/2014. Atleast that confirms that HO did receive my app.
