references that need "not be related to the other referee"

Hello,
I have a couple of friends that kindly offered me to be my references. They are partners, not married.
Does this condition be ok or "related" means that I need to find one other referee?

Related means through blood or marriage - so they are ok if they qualify to be referees otherwise.
