Taking a newborn abroad after receiving registration certificate only

Post by rajh1980 » Tue Jul 20, 2021 3:13 pm

Hi everyone,

I submitted MN1 application on behalf of my UK-born baby to register him as a British citizen. We're waiting to for the application to be processed and hopefully we'll get the certificate within weeks.

We're planning to go back to India in August (the baby has an Indian passport). Can we apply for his British passport in India via the UK embassy using the registration certificate?

British passports from India take between 16 weeks and 12 months to be processed.

That’s a long period. Thanks for flagging it up.
