Date of passport application: 6th Jan (special delivery)

I received a call this morning from the IPS office asking whether I want them to send my daughter's documents via secure carrier as I have enclosed just one pre-paid envelope and they could only return ducuments individually in separate mails. Never mind, I paid them an extra £3. Meanwhile, I got my reference number so that I booked the interview prior to receiving their letter :D .

What is the main reason that everyone seems to be using NCS? Just to retain your original documents? Is it worth the money if you don't need your passport any time soon and if the application is straight forward?

I used NCS because I need my passport as I am travelling soon, otherwise I would send my application by post.

Yes, at long last I have completed my journey to becoming a British Citizen and now have the red book ! In total it took exactly 8 weeks from submitting documents ( 10/11/10 - 10/1/11) via NCS to UKBA to attending ceremony - to passport application and receiving the passport !

IMHO, acknowledgement letter is quite redundant piece of kit and tells you nothing bar your referrence number. But you don't need your referrence number as according to UKBA you shouldn't even contact them within 6 months from the date of sending out your application.
You have a Post Office slip as a proof the letter has been delivered and, more important, the payment has been already processed and you should have relevant line on your bank statement.
Mine is showing: CARD PAYMENT TO NATIONALITY DIRECTORAT
I know, it is a very stressfull experience and that's why we all panic when we really shouldn't.

Well, as everyone else seems to receive the letter, and you didn't, I would call to know what's going on.
Take the chance now as it's 9am and the lines are not yet busy!
