I think you might be right, we were self employed and were claiming working tax credit. Our benefits were stopped and were asked to send our passports, invoices/receipts etc after we applied for citizenship. However the business was very new and tax return was not due upon us!!. We have send necessary paperwork to HMRC + HO letter that our passports are not with us. May be its delayed because of this?

Also I am Indian my wife is pakistani ! do you think this could be a reason?

Everything is legitimate but still I get worried quickly!!
hummmmmmmm!
I don't think so mate. I am on full time employment from last 6 years. I applied on 5/4/11 with my son. My application is still waiting to be scanned. It is like posting during bank holidays. We applied at wrong time..i.e fee rise period
No one prepared to clear the pile. So new applications are processed faster.
best wishes

Hi guys, been reading this forum and its very interesting and its great we are sharing our experiences, so thought i would share mine. Basically got my ILR september 2010, based on 2 year spouse visa. Applied for naturalisation in march 2011. Payment debited my account on 18th March 2011 and got my acknowledgment letter dated the 22nd March 2011.

I as well do ring to get status updates and keep getting the same response as everyone else....waiting to be allocated to a case worker. Yesterday I got all my supporting documents back (passport, marriage certificate, etc) and a letter to check that all my details are correct (name, dob, nationality, etc) and that basically its still being considered.

Is this normal for them to send docs back first before approval or has anyone got approval and docs back at the same time? How long do you reckon now it will take for me to get an approval if they have now sent my documents back and asking to check if all my details are correct?

Thanks everyone

I'm starting to think , there's no point ringing them because they just give thesame answer. Imagine someone calling you every 10 mins asking you what's your name?

Choled60, can i just ask did you get all your documents back and a letter to check that your name, etc are all correct and then you got your approval or did they send all your docs back along with your approval letter?

Thanks

sorry just realised you applied through the checking service so you probably didnt send any original docs off in the first place to have to get them back before your approval! Sorry ignore me didnt click

Yes, they retain it, probably shred it; you wont require it again.

Thanks for sharing..so this is a case where the docs and approval letter came together? Is there anyone else here or who know of someoe who have had their docs returned first and then the approval letter? starting to get a bit worried if this is not a good sign that i got my docs back first before approval. Thanks

No this is standard, you usually get the documents first and then approval. Its like when they tell you on the phone that a decision has been taken!! You will be getting your approval next week I bet

FINALLY!

I posted my son application for brtitish citizenship on MN1 form under section 1(3)

Type: Postal
Date Posted : 05/04/2011
Date recieved by HO: 06/04/2011
Date Payment deducted on Credit card: 15/04/2011
Acknowledgement Letter Rec'd: 21/04/2011 ( dated 15/04/2011)
Date of approval: 12 May 2011- (Rec'd on 14/05/2011)

A Letter was attached from ND stating that my son's application has been sucessful and a registeration certificate of british citizenship has been posted seprately.

Documents attached
1-Son Birth certificate
2-Son Passport
3-Father passport with ILR

My son was born in the UK before i recieved ILR on long residency basis. So Section 1(3) of British Nationality Act 1981 applies.

IT basically took ND exact 5 weeks to process this application.

Good luck to everyone else :-)

Next stop is my son's british passport!!!

It does sound like the HO is starting to get back on track.
Seems March was just a bad month to submit for some reason. Lots of bank holidays and many employees probably took leave to bridge across the long weekends to make a giant holiday!
Me and my colleagues have playing 'guess the approval receipt date': closest guess wins! Makes the wait a bit sweeter :)
