Many thanks to HaseebKhan for the advice. I hadn't received my passport interview letter, but called the IPS who gave me a reference number. I then called for an interview and they were actually able to set up interviews for me and my wife (despite not having her ref).

I was told that the London office has a huge backlog and that I would have to leave details and they would contact me in 10 days to arrange an appointment....I declined this option.
Chelmsford was next closest but they only had slots in 2 weeks time!
I opted for Luton for this coming Tuesday.

In the final stretch now... 8)
Hi Mozart i have my interview on the same date and selected Luton for the same reasons for london office.. what time is ur interview ?

Hello,
It is 11weeks ………..still waiting for my approval. Even after receipt of my approval, I still have a few problems. My present contract is ending on 31/07/2011. I need to attend job interviews for which I need my current passport. Do I need to send my current passport for British passport application through check & send service at post office? If I do need to send it, how long does it take for them to return the passport? Can some one shine light on this please? Thanks for your help in advance.
With regards

Update:
Applied on 20 April 11.
Called HO today for the 1st time...said under consideration, it takes up to 6 months.
Called HO today, a nice lady informed that a decision has been made yesterday. How long does it take to receive the ‘brown’ letter? I need the passports for travel.

They normally send the document by 2nd class, After decision made -- letter need to get printed (add 2 to 3 working days) + 2nd class mail time (add 5 to 6 working days) = around 10 working days

@Cheema

I dont think there is an exact science to the process that we can understand anyway. Because the HO received my application on the 20th April and debited my account on the 6th June.

I so think postal applications get dealt with first aswell which is fair enough because they have their passports.

I am sure we will hear something soon.
