Then just use whoever you interpret as qualifying. But do not be surprised if they reject your application.
They won't reject it, they will simply ask you to provide another referee.

100s have done this from abroad and not reported any problems due to referees.

I have never heard of a passport refusal due to a referee issue.
Then refer back to keh723’s post of 22 aug. her sisters referee was refused as the UK passport had expired AND they were not residing in the UK.

As i said you give your advice as you see fit. I know what i would do...
Not sure why my sister used someone who did not have a valid UK passport. Not something I would have suggested, and pretty sure that the guide stated your referee needs to hold a valid UK passport, whether they live in or out of the UK. She was able to provide a second referee. This one has valid UK passport, but currently resides in US. All had to be done via paper form. Much more of a hassle than having your referee live in the UK and be able to verify all online. I do agree that it can be difficult to provide a referee who lives in the UK and is not related. I am fortunate to have several work colleagues. My sister only has family in the UK. She is still waiting on the status of her passport application after providing the new referee.

just checked my downloaded copy of the application and indeed there was one question:
Do you want to attend a citizenship ceremony in a different local council (if in the UK), high
commission or embassy (if overseas)?
I answered NO, but maybe I should have selected YES and would then have been able to state which one I want to go to?

Do you remember what you answered? Because there was nowhere else where I could have put the town.
I am thinking about writing the embassy in my country because I want to go to a consulate near my village and not all the way through the entire country to the embassy

@jkproperties: any news?

I am going to the High Commissioner's residence in Pretoria (nearest to Johannesburg). The Consulate is in Cape Town with an Honorary Consulate in Durban. All three host oath ceremonies in South Africa. I don’t think that you will have to go to the embassy for your ceremony if you have a consulate nearer to you.

Ok,
So today I found out my application was assigned to a case worker yesterday.

Hopefully this is a fairly quick process.

Well at least you’ve reached a stage you hadn’t reached before. Seems it’s now going forward with hopefully the right outcome. Fingers crossed!

Sorry - didn’t mean to be rude when I didn’ answer that question. I just prefer to keep some details out of the internet.

Anyway, I decided to just wait and see. If it’s the embassy in the capital instead of the consulate, I am sure I could change it.

My sister received her passport today! Both our journeys are now complete. We started early February. She had trouble with the passport application, but it finally all worked out. Our other sister has her ceremony tomorrow!

And, I just returned from a visit and it felt incredible to enter on my British passport!

So, I have received an email from this amazingly helpful lady today that a decision has been made, how do I want my documents returned.

I am sure she must be teasing me...

I have asked her to please give me the outcome, I now await her reply...

Hi,
I had the same experience 3rd week in Aug and received assistance from the very nice lady in the courier return office , she advised that there had been a technical glitch in the enrolment Dept and was able to get the Case Worker onto the issue.

I did finally get an e-mail from my Case Worker who arranged for my Biometric enrolment , I received e-mail notice the Caseworker indicating verification and granting of approval on 30 Aug, indicating that an invitation letter would be forwarded by the local Consulate in Capetown.
5 weeks and waiting !

The name of the game seems to be patience.

Enjoy your ceremony an Wednesday!
Did you count the 6 weeks from the day the approval was issued or from the day you actually received it?

It’s been 5 weeks from the day my approval was issued and they went by pretty fast.
But now my patience is coming to an end and waiting seems to be one of the hardest things in the world to me
