Yup.. this has crossed my mind many times. I am also waiting to receive mine (although for UKF). Good luck with your application :)
Relax - you should receive an approval letter & inviation to cermeony by email (well in my case I did).
How long after your processing was done before you received an email? I've received an email that my processing is done, but they won't say yet what the status is! I've got a courier in Liverpool scheduled to pick up my paperwork and send it back next week, so I'll see if there's a letter in there or not. Just odd they wouldn't tell me when they notified me that processing was done.
I wouldn’t know as the only correspondence I received was the letter confirming successful application & ceremony. I did not receive correspondence from UKVI that a decision had been reached
I find this interesting. I think you're the first person on this forum that i've read that has received it by email.. maybe depends on the case worker? It just irks me that there is no consistency in the process. The South Africa post is absolutely terrible and its got me worried.

I do understand the poor postal service but you should get an approval email first. I have heard absolutely nothing since my biometrics. Perhaps I'm being too hasty and must just wait longer.
I recieved an approval letter and invitaion to ceremony directly from The Foreign & Commonwealth Office. This was emailed to me - Nothing posted by surface mail.
Also, how did you get your supporting documents back?

I got a strange email yesterday from UKVI. The email was requesting me to do a "UKVI Customer Satisfaction Survey". There was a link attached for me to do this annonomys survey. This is the first correspondence I have had from UKVI since my biometric request email. Quite honestly I don't have anything to report as I haven't heard anything regarding my application that's why I found the email strange. I'm not sure if anyone else has received this.

Ha, I did just today! I tried to take it, but the first question was along the lines of "Has UKVI approved an application," and while I received a days' prior email stating that my application had been completely processed, they did not respond to my request to know the status of my registration. I answered "no" and the survey thanked me for participating and that was that. I should get my documents back this week, and I hope there is some letter within that envelope telling me what my status is.

Really would love to know how they send docs back. On the on-line application form they ask for your residential address. Mine is a farm and we do not have postal delivery, I wanted to put a family members address but did not want to be accused of anything funny. There is no section to put a postal address. I now have to send docs to the address provided on the printed checklist but nowhere does it say how you get these back.

I just did the UKVI survey. It only asked me one question. Basically asked me if UKVI has reached a decision on my application. Obviously I said no. That was the end of the "anonymous survey". Weird.

Excluding naturalisation and other tiers of applications obviously, I find it odd that UKVI sees applicants as customers, especially the UKM and UKF routes, which were specifically put in place to combat previously discriminatory legislation, namely the maternal line and illegitimate children. We all pretty much have legitimate claims to British citizenship, yet we're still made to jump through hoops and we are pretty much all left in the dark over the course of the whole process. The way they do it, just seems super inefficient. Remnants of the Home Office's "hostile environment" policies perhaps. Anyway, rant over :)

It seems that their process is quite inconsistent among applicants. I have every confidence that my original approval letter will land up in my post box 6 months from now😀

Perhaps they want to guage processing times. I get the feeling all levels of the the UK government are preoccupied with Brexit at the moment.

Me too. Just popped into my inbox about an hour ago. The problem is that the questions aren’t relevant to citizenship applications but rather for visa applications

I did my biometrics in Cape Town, South Africa on the 3rd of August this year. I haven't heard a word from UKVI since then. Some people went a lot quicker from biometrics to approval letter. Should I be worried?
I wouldn’t be worried – my biometrics were done on 10 July 2018 and notification received bout successful outcome on 7 November 2018.
Wow almost 4 months?!? Yikes. I hope mine doesn't take that long but it really doesn't matter as long as it's approved. lol

After months of patiently waiting I finally received an approval email and attached approval letter from my local British High Commission. In the attached letter from my local High Commission was the date for my citizenship ceremony. I'm attending my ceremony at the residence of my local British High Commissioner on the 14th December.

After recent stressing my approval suddenly arrived today. I am completely overwhelmed with happiness that this important life event is finally happening. My application took just over three months to process. From date of application to approval. To all those that are waiting don't give up and all the best.

I haven't received my original documents and I'm not sure how they are going to send it to me. It's the only thing I'm a bit worried about.

Congrats! You must be ecstatic! Again what irks me is the inconsistency... I sent an email enquiry yesterday.. got a reply almost immediately saying mine was approved on back in October and the decision letter (NOT attached as an email) and supporting documents have been sent back to South Africa.. I mean I wouldn't have known at all unless I had enquired or waited till the letter came in the post (which I'm still waiting for)... oh well, assuming High Commission will contact me at some point as well

I'm a bit worried if my valuable documents get lost in the inefficient SA postal system. Those documents are irreplaceable. Perhaps they sent it via diplomatic post to SA and I can fetch it on the day of my ceremony. Let's hope.

Lets hope you have better luck.. mines currently sitting in JHB International Mail Centre and hasn't moved since October. I have a Royal Mail tracking number at least. Let us know if you get them back after your ceremony.

That does not bode well for getting my documents back. I can't understand why UKVI can't courier your documents back to you in a more secure way. Surface mail is dodgy.

Pathetic that SA Postal Service, to say the least!!! I know they were rioting, striking and burning Post Offices through July and that they are working to try catch up the backlogs, and then further strikes as below!!!

I have re-posted some crucial documents to Durban, I had to get re-signed, the first sent 4/7/2018, still not arrived/nowhere to be found! The 2nd redone sent 1/10/2018 International Signed for and Tracked and still not arrived as yet. A friend has a contact pretty high up in SAPO who has traced that the item has never arrived at JIMC, albeit Royal Mail have confirmed the flight it left Heathrow on!!! and have now had to lodge a claim/query, as only the sending service can interrogate the receiving service!!!

This is the latest updates on Royal Mail website:-
South Africa

Update: 12 September 2018
End date: Ongoing

Indefinite postal strike commenced in Johannesburg Airport impacting on the operation and handling of mail upon arrival.

As previously advised, this will affect all International Standard and International Signed postings which are currently being processed within 6+ weeks and 8+ weeks respectively.

These aims will more likely worsen as volumes of mail and backlogs grow as a result of the strike. We will keep monitoring this situation and advise of any developments.

I think unless you included a courier slip with your application, your docs will come back Royal Mail 2nd Class.

It is pathetic. Also, what I can't understand is why HO/UKVI can't courier documents back, at the applicant's expense obviously. They're more than happy to do it for British nationals already (e.g. replacing birth certificates etc). Perhaps that's the difference.

How did you get the Royal Mail to query the location of your letter? I'm not seeing any contact details on their website.. unless I'm missing something? Their Track and Trace site says it left the UK on 26 October and hasn't updated since then. JIMC say it hasn't been processed in their facility yet. I'm just concerned I won't receive my approval letter in time for the ceremony - although still waiting for High Commission in Pretoria/Embassy in Cape Town to contact me...not sure if its worth contacting them myself in the mean time

I thought about doing this.. but then read elsewhere on this forum that people were having problems getting a courier to collect the docs, so decided to chance it with the post. In retrospect, I probably would have done this

I am about to send off my docs and I think I am going to include a covering letter requesting they send the docs to a friend in the UK rather than my address in RSA. I hope they read and act on the request. Time will tell......
