Thank you a_powers. I guess this whole process is a lesson in patience! I wanted to make a trip to the UK in April so was hoping for my passport back but guess I'll just have to sit back and wait. They acknowledged receipt on 11/1/18 so very early days!!

Maybe you could write them a letter and give them the missing info. Couldn't hurt to try.

Mother born in the UK. Moved to the States, marrying my American Father.

I was born and raised in the US. In my teens my family all moved to the UK from the US in the mid to late 80s. ILR ever since then as UKM wasn't an option. No problems before with ILR (jobs, daughter, house etc) until last year when I became a 'surprised brit' too.
british-citizenship/surprised-brits-t175301.html

Documents used for years are no longer acceptable. Work have been great but wanted the Home Office approved documentation to prove Right to Work (TUPE'd).

So relieved, approval received yesterday and waiting now for the ceremony invitation.

Thanks to this forum for all the invaluable advice and help. Good luck everyone!

I had a question for those who've gone through this. It was unclear to me whether, following the Biometric data collection, I needed to send in the stamped appointment letter to the USCIS office in the USA.

I'm a USA citizen applying through the Form UKM (british mother).

Once I complete the Biometric appointment do I need to send anything further in or do I just wait?

It is confusing because the sheet I was given at my biometric appointment (which was mainly directed at Visa applicants) spoke of sending in forms, docs, and purchasing a return mailing authorization... So it wasn't clear what citizenship applicants needed to do.

Thanks in advance!

I needed to pick out the USCIS center and they made the appointment. Everything was done by email. I took no papers other than ID.

I think I messed up - I sent all my supporting documents as copies - I did not notarize my US Passport copy. I wonder if they'll notify me to resend? It took so long to gather everything up - I totally missed that. Has anyone had to re-send any documents, and if so how were you notified?
Thank you

I messed up and didn't provide all my debit card details. I was contacted by email to provide the missing details. Check your junk mail regularly as that is where i found mine - it appears as PMExceptionsTechnical. That was 3 weeks ago and still no money taken off account so as noted by others, patience is the key with the HO!

Hi Lisaanduk was there any other communication from the HO prior to this request for your card details? They haven't acknowledged receipt of my application at all and it's been a few weeks.

I had an email saying the application had been received along with a reference number around the time it would have arrived in the UK from the USA. If you look back on the timeline for UKM applications there are so many different experiences!! I was hoping for a couple of months turnaround but that's not happening. Hope you hear soon 😟

Ahhhh same!! Thank you for your reply! I emailed enquiring if the documents had been received and the form email reply that answers all the possible questions one might email with says they will confirm receipt within 6-8 WEEKS. Oye. The information in that automated reply email is actually helpful; I can't understand why it isn't available anywhere else.

Hello everyone,

This board has been very helpful! Thanks to all who have posted.

My application was received and the money taken from the account about three weeks ago. I'm wondering if people received their request for biometrics through an emailed letter or through the postal service. I haven't gotten anything yet, and yes I'm getting impatient. Is the letter or email from the UK or a US address?

Also, in my confirmation email there is an email address for questions and FAQs? Has anyone ever queried them through this?

Thank you!

Hi,

Could you tell me the email you used. I used this one - the one in the email - and it came back undeliverable:ukbanationalityenquiries@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk

Thank you!

The biometrics was set up via emails to pick which center I wanted to go to, then they made the appointment.

Hey there Angela! I'm sorry for the delayed response.

I have also been waiting for the biometrics request.

They received my packet on March 6 but didn't take the money from my account until March 22. They finally acknowledged receipt of the application on March 26. I haven't heard anything yet re: biometrics.

I used the email address: nationalityenquiries@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk and that's when they replied back with an automatic email with a list of topics/faqs. I later received a standard form response to the same query on the same day they sent my acknowledgment email with my Case ID#.

No more good character requirement for UKM. I guess they figured offspring of British mothers are not more dangerous than offspring of British fathers.

Hi there

Has anyone applied for their UKM in light of the recent Supreme Court ruling dealing with the Romein case? (Search for Advocate General for Scotland v Romein)

I’m hoping someone with a similar case to mine has been successful in their application...

Maternal grandparents both born in the UK
My mother born in Zimbabwe in 1951 (she’s therefore British by descent)
I was born in South Africa in 1980

I’m currently living in the UK (ancestral visa) and would like to apply for UKM.

Thank you! That makes me feel better. I'll keep you posted on this. Looking back at the timelines it seems like everyone heard from biometrics within about two weeks after acknowledgement.

I will also keep you updated because it seems like we applied around a similar time. I have yet to hear anything since they took the the fee. Seems like it’s slower to start than what it has been?

Hi Angela,

Have you received any updates? About a week ago I finally received an email re: biometrics appt and yesterday I received the appt confirmation for next week in Buffalo. I just wanted to check in to see if you had received anything yet and to assure you it's coming! :)
