british nationality and family members of EEA nationals

Post by imt_pk » Tue Apr 15, 2008 12:27 am

The Home secretary has said in her report (see website)http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/siteco ... iew=Binary

In the future, we propose that there should be
three key routes to naturalisation as a British
citizen:
Highly skilled and skilled workers under the
points-based system, and their dependants
(economic migrants)
Family members of British citizens and
permanent residents
Those in need of protection (refugees and
those granted humanitarian protection)

Can any body tell me what will happen to the family members of EEA natioanls? does this mean that they will not get british citizenship?

EEA nationals and their families will still have an entitlement to Permanent Residence after 5 years in the U.K.

After that their pathway to British citizenship will be the same as for any other permanent resident.

Bear in mind that the U.K. is not obliged (under the EEA Treaties) to make British citizenship available.
