British - OCI

Post by confused_oci » Mon Nov 28, 2011 5:37 pm

Hi all,

I'm sure you have been asked this question many times before but after reading the application instructions and various other sites for help, I've been left confused with the whole process...so confused I'm questioning whether I'm even eligible for an OCI.

First of all I am British citizen by birth, my mother was born in India and moved over here in the 80's. She is also British and has both Indian and British passport. - Am I/we eligible?

I've filled in Part A and am ready to fill in the print out -> Part B

Please correct me where I'm wrong :)

Document wise all I as an individual applicant, I need to send is:

(1) App forms Part A + B
(2) Self attested 51x51mm photo affixed to Part A
(3) Photocopies of British passport - first page, photo page, all observation pages/visa pages
4) Copy of British birth cert
(5) Self addressed envelope to return docs
(6) Address: High Commission of India, Aldwych, London, WC2B 4NA

Also, what is the best way to make the £172 payment? Can it be made when the application has been 'granted' and sent along with the passport? (secure delivery)

Any help appreciated - thanks :)

First, its illegal to hold valid Indian and British passport, from Indian govt point of view. I am presuming the Indian passport has expired.
Your mother needs to surrender her Indian passport first, obtain a surrender certificate and then both of you can apply for OCI.
The fee can be paid in person or by a postal order.
