BRP and new UKVI

Hi all,

I hear in Youtube videos that BRP holders must create a UKVI account. my wife has a BRP that ends at the end of this year (ILR), she might not qualify for naturalisation as she got some abscence.

should I look to extend it or should I create this account and is there a deadline?

All BRPs expire end 24 and you must open an eVisa account.
Naturalisation questions should be asked in the British citizenship forum, separate from the new online system.

ILR is permanent status and has no expiry date. UKVI is simply moving away from BRPs to digital status for all.
The eVisa system is NOT open to all yet and it is estimated to be rolled out fully this summer. So there is no way to get an account yet unless invited. Wait until you get an invite or when the UKVI provides more details. BRPs remain valid until expiry as normal.

Information on eVisas as all BPRs will be phased out from 1st Jan 2025

thanks, but how will UKVI contact my wife.

it' has been 3 year and the address has changed and no recollection of the email I used to get ILR...

what happens if I do not get sent an invite link and hence I do not create a account?

Currently, it is invite only for people who are being granted ILR, via Email.
I repeat that the system is still NOT open to all migrants.
Later on, it will be open to all so any migrant will be able to create an account. Wait until this happens by the summer as I explained.

no contact her, should I continue to wait, asking because wife's BRP expires in Dec 2024 and currently she is abroad?

also how long someone on ILR stay outside of the UK in one stretch please?

Don't exceed 2years outside the UK or else the ILR automatically lapses.

she's been away for 6 months this year and she was away 3 months last year too.

I guess when she returns she will have to wait a long time to apply for BC.

A UKVI account can now be created to view an eVisa.

If you have a biometric residence permit (BRP) that expires on 31 December 2024, you can now create a UKVI account and access your eVisa. You should do this before the expiry date of your BRP. You should continue to carry your BRP with you when you travel internationally until it expires.

ok, thanks, I will create an account for her.

out of curiosity, why does she have to return before BRP expires pls? if I have the eVisa she can show that on arrival at the Airport?

UKVI account can be created from anywhere in the world.

You must use the BRP (prior to 31 dec 2025) to convert it to an evisa, this takes 1 to 2 hours max.

Once this is done you update the evisa with your latest passport details.

Job done.

thanks all, my wife is planning to return to the UK before 31st of Dec, so I guess it is ok to do after she comes here?

The physcial card will still be acceptable when she board the flight in the foreign country or have there been any recent horror stories of people being denied since they do not have much time left in terms of card expiry? (I know certain countries have rules on passport must not expire for 6 months or so etc, so wondering if they would check for Visa as well, legally they shouldn't, but. There are some ill informed people out there at important jobs..eh..)

Valid BRPs as well as eVisas are now valid for travel.

Hi all

I tried to set up an account for her and link the eVisa using the BRP and have been told UKVI will contact once the eVisa is ready?

1) how long typically does this take pls? - asking because we need to prove eVisa urgently for a schengen visa (they ask some printouts from the account)

2) Do I have to link her passport as well so that airlines in the future know she has visa automatically, as they are likely to scan the passport and not BRP (BRP expired at the end of the month anyway)
