BRP with ILR, Travel documents????

Post by Spartek » Wed Apr 12, 2017 3:21 pm

Hello.

I have been living in the UK almost all my life, currently I hold a biometric residence permit with indefinite leave to Remain.

I will be applying for citizenship when I can afford it, I wanted to travel to visit family.

Wanted to apply for a 1951 convention travel document (I have indefinite leave to Remain, is this even the correct travel document?????) had a few questions as I am unable to find anywhere online!

- where am I ABLE to travel to in the world
- where I am UNABLE to travel to in the world
- where in the EU will I require a VISA
- what will I require for re entry into the UK

I am settled In the UK and do not plan to leave for more than two years, I just wish to see something other than this island. Need to know as much as possible so I don't end up travelling somewhere and ruining my status and not being allowed back in the UK.

Please get back to me with honest answers, the government supplies zero information that people actually need it's like they want you to mess up :(

Hi Saprtek,

I will try to answer your questions, you need to check and see if you can get the passport of your home country and if you can't, then you are able to apply for CTD.(for Refugees and Stateless people).

With this Travel document, you can travel to all the countries, except a few, such as UAE which does not recognise it, however, you can transit through UAE. you do not require Visa for most of the EU countries, however, you always and always need to check the Embassies website and normally you don't see the information related to this type of Travel document, then you need to contact the embassy and ask them.

You need to have your ILR BRP with you when you come back to the UK as Travel Document is not the proof of your residency.

I am a frequent traveler and have problems when I am going to passport control in other countries, and it takes me hours to explain the type of document etc

Hope this helps
