Can a retired university professor be a referee?

Post by XavierGold » Sat Dec 13, 2025 8:09 pm

Hi, my professional referee is a retired (emeritus) university professor.

I read very contradictory information online when trying to confirm whether it’s acceptable to be retired from a job in the list of recognised professions.

Now I am very confused as to whether this person can act as my referee? Can someone please clarify if retired individuals are accepted or not?

Thank you

Yes, that is acceptable.
