Can I be a PR and apply for UK HSMP?

Could someone please help with this....

If I am a Canadian Permanent Resident currently, would applying for a UK HSMP in any way jeapordize either my permanent residence or my (eventual) application for Canadian Citizenship (given that I spend the requisite time as a PR in Canada). Would working abroad for 2 years affect my permanent residence?
